The Financial Analyst has multiple primary purposes within the company:

  • Provides active support to VP of Accounting and oversight of company initiatives in policies, procedures, and internal controls for accounting operations and finance department.
  • Manage daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly reporting packages that provide for timely and reliable financial and operational information for third party needs (Green Brick) and for internal decision- making processes (CB JENI/Normandy/Southgate/PPMG executive and management teams), including analytics that accompany the financial reports.
  • Devises and executes strategies for financial reporting and accounting functions to provide continuous improvements and efficiencies where needed.
  • Work with Accounting/Finance/Ops Management team to provide leadership within the accounting department to implement, improve and maintain the system of internal controls as required by Sarbanes-Oxley and in order to fully participate in the complete mitigation of existing, and prevention of future, material weaknesses.
  • Participate in the developing of standard operating procedures, including documentation thereon, that improve the companys efficiency. This includes proactive identification of changes that may be required in order to ensure the companys successful adaptation to the changing internal and/or external environment (i.e. new markets, retracting markets, significant growth, changing organizational structure, new technologies, etc.).
Responsibilities:
  • Leadership within of the Accounting/Finance Department in a manner that will produce a team environment that will motivate, develop, and retain quality staff members.
  • Development and documentation of business processes and policies.
  • Establishment and execution of internal controls over the companys accounting and financial procedures.
  • Maintaining Confidentiality of Financial Information and Projections
  • Issuance of accurate financial reports in form and frequency to meet the needs of internal users and Green brick.
  • Review Units (Sales/Starts/Closings) and Ensure Reports Tie on a monthly basis and investigate and work with team to correct errors as they arise
  • Manage Third Party Lot Takedowns and Contracts to ensure Compliance with Contract and Lot Purchase
  • Request Land Committee Approval of Third Party Lot Takedowns as needed
  • Accurately Manage Shared Community Costs Budgets and Quarterly LIO Spreadsheet to issue Shared Community Costs budgets to purchasing team on a quarterly basis
  • Prepare Various Budget to Actual Reports
  • Prepare Comp Studies on a regular basis and as requested by VP of Accounting
  • Work with VP of Accounting and VP of Customer Service and Warranty on Warranty Reserve balances and analytics
  • Work with executive management team to track and ensure receipt of accurate budgets for New Community Set Ups (Shared Community Costs, Sales Office, Design/Model Furnishings/Construction Trailer) and perform analysis on a regular basis of said budgets to include holding meetings and preparing reporting ahead of such meetings
  • Implementation of current technology solutions to improve efficiency primarily of Financial Reporting and accounting operations.
  • Maintenance of Production report and stage updates, including weekly stuck home report
  • Sales Gross Margin Weekly Reporting, plus ensuring on a monthly basis there is a reviewed budget for every start once starts are finalized
  • Maintain Accurate Lot Starts in BuildPro
  • Create and Analyze GL reporting as necessary
  • Perform Set Up of New Projects in NSE as needed and directed by VP of Accounting as part of the land approval process
  • Work with VP of Accounting on bi-annual (or more if needed) forecasts
  • Work with VP of Accounting on continued process improvements (or any analytical reports needed) and analyze key reports weekly/monthly
  • Support of month-end and year-end close processes, including documentation via checklists and other evidence required for Sarbanes-Oxley.
  • Prepare Balance Sheet Reconciliations on a monthly or quarterly basis as requested
  • Support Accounting Operations Team as needed, to include reviewing Journal Entries, Accounts Payable Entries, Job Cost Budgets, etc.

Authority/Budget/Decision Making/Discretion and Independent Judgment Ability:

This position involves the level of duties as described above, or similar, but is not a position of supervisory or management level.

Physical Requirements: Ability to stand and walk for 4 hours straight or up to a full 8-hour day; sit for extended periods; kneel and bend at the waist; walk up and down stairs; walk on unlevel terrain; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision ability required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and peripheral vision.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • BS in Accounting, Finance or Management Preferred
  • CPA or MBA is a plus

Experience & Competencies:

  • Experience working in Newstar
  • Experience in accounting and/or finance function for 5+ years
  • Familiarity with Sarbanes-Oxley compliance standards and generally excepted accounting principles (GAAP)
  • Advanced computer skills on MS office, accounting software and databases
  • High attention to detail and excellent analytical skills
  • Experience creating and maintaining financial statements
  • Familiarity with general ledger functions and necessary month end/year end closing processes and procedures
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff and management, other departments, and those outside the company (vendors, customers, owners, etc.)
  • Strong ability to adapt to changing circumstances and develop solutions to new and unique problems/challenges
  • Ability to train and develop employees with respect to technical skills and interpersonal/soft skills
