Purpose and Scope

Provide Project Cost Estimating support on a variety of engineering assignments associated with industrial base operations and maintenance of facilities infrastructure. The Project Estimator is responsible for developing conceptual, ROM (Rough Order of Magnitude), and final estimates for facility modification and new construction projects with varying size and scope at the Kennedy Space Center and Canaveral Space Force Station. Cost estimates are prepared within the guidelines of the performance work statement and the CSI Master Format.

Job Duties and Essential Responsibilities

Perform Construction Cost Estimating activities in support of industrial base operations and maintenance of facilities infrastructure. Ability to complete full quantity take-offs to support accurate estimates for all disciplines in industrial projects including, but not limited to civil and site work, structural, concrete, envelope, finishes, mechanical, and electrical. A complete understanding of the interrelationship of the cost of labor, material, equipment, and productivity in the unit costs used at each level of an estimate is expected. Provide solid critical-thinking, analytical and communication skills in support of Project objectives. Maintain close attention to detail and manage time and meet aggressive deadlines. Exhibit proficiency in utilization of RS Means Estimating software. Ensure assigned projects are completed on time, and within approved scope and budget. Establish and maintain a filing system or databases as needed for tracking project status. Develop, maintain, and produce documentation in support ROM and Task Plan efforts. Interface with customers to comply with scope and schedule requirements. Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested

Education and Experience Requirements

Associate's degree in related field and five (5) years of construction estimating job-related experience or equivalent. Experience in HVAC and Fire Protection construction preferred. Good communications and analytical skills. Proficient working knowledge of RS Means or similar Construction Cost Estimating software. Demonstrable experience in ability to navigate through all sections of cost estimating software. Working knowledge in MS Office Suite. Demonstrated experience in meeting schedule deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications:

Construction Field Experience. A demonstrable knowledge with MS Excel, Word, Project, and Powerpoint. May require the ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance. Working knowledge with Maximo.

Other Requirements:
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and be able to obtain and maintain required clearances/badges as required by program and position.
  • Must have the ability to communicate in English, both verbal and written in an effective manner.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license.
Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:

This position involves work typical of an office environment with no unusual hazards; occasional lifting to 20 pounds; constant sitting with use of computer terminal; constant use of sight abilities while reviewing documents; constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication; constant mental alertness; must possess planning/organizing skills and must be able to work under deadlines. Field work will consist primarily of site walk downs in support of design projects and system trouble shooting Site hazard training and Personal Protective Equipment are provided.
