EMS Clinical Coordinator - Non-Exempt

IMMEDIATELY HIRING PART-TIME Opportunity

$30.00 - $35.00 per hour

JOB SUMMARY:

Coordinates all aspects of the Paramedic Clinical/Field Education Program. Communicates with hospitals and EMS agencies to place students in clinical and/or field rotations. Monitors compliance with requirements of students and manages the clinical contract process.

Duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • C oordinates the Clinical and/or Field Internship Education Program
  • Maintains current knowledge of the state, local, and accreditation regulations and requirements from the various regulatory bodies: IE, California EMS Agency, Title 22, Joint Commission, SSV & LEMSA, CAAHEP, and others as indicated.
  • Coordinates clinical/affiliation agreement initiation and renewal with the agency and the AMR National Director of Learning.
Clinical Coordinator Responsibilities:
  • Develops and maintains relationships with managers and other lead staff in each clinical area that accepts Program students.
  • Maintains positive working relationships with Program faculty based on observation and/or feedback from staff, students and affiliated personnel.
  • Schedules students for clinical rotations for the Paramedic Program in a timely manner. Clinical schedules should be complete one week prior to when the class begins the clinical rotations. Confirms clinical schedules with clinical sites in writing.
  • Attends unit staff meetings prior to the beginning of the student rotation schedule for each class cycle to review the goals and objectives for the clinical experience. Also reviews what skills or tasks the students may not perform.
  • Orients all preceptors to a level acceptable to the CoAEMSP.
  • Provides clinical orientation for students prior to beginning clinical rotations.
  • Supervises students in the clinical areas during clinical rotations. Supervision includes:
  • Makes rounds of students in the various clinical settings during the shift.
  • Contacts the assigned preceptors periodically.
  • Observes the students performing skills in the clinical sites.
  • Observes the students performing patient assessments.
  • Provides frequent assessments of student progress in achieving program requirements.
  • Reviews all clinical evaluation forms.
  • Reviews individual patient assessment forms for documentation of appropriate assessment, medical terminology, and other identified criteria.
  • Tracks student patient contacts by skill event category.
  • Identifies and notifies Program Manager when additional experience is required to meet minimums or competencies for skills, disease categories, or age groups.
  • Counsels students regarding performance and satisfactory completion of requirements; documents counseling.
  • Documents student progress in attaining required competencies. Documents at least 2 student consultation sessions: one to take place at the completion of the clinical rotation period.
  • Notifies the Program Manager as student issues arise in the clinical area; consults with the Program Manager and Medical Director if counseling is required.
  • Along with Program faculty, establishes a plan to help students meet minimum standards in the clinical area as needed.
  • Maintains availability via phone while the students are in clinical areas or informs the students who to contact if unavailable.
  • Provides students with verbal coaching and feedback.
  • Revises clinical evaluation forms as needed, in conjunction with program staff and clinical representatives, to meet state, CoAEMSP and NREMT requirements.
  • Provides verbal and written feedback to the clinical areas from the student evaluation of the educational experience.
  • Evaluates clinical areas for continued use.
  • Works with the AMR Learning executive team to assure current contracts.
  • Seeks new areas for clinical experience as appropriate.
  • Meets as scheduled with other program staff to discuss student progress and competencies.
Education:
  • Associate degree preferred
  • AHA BLS Instructor*
  • AHA ACLS Instructor*
  • Instructor of either PALS or PEPP or EPC*
  • PHTLS or ITLS Instructor*
  • Completion of an approved Instructor course *, specifics as required by local governing authority
  • *Required within one year of hire and must remain current.
Experience:
  • Minimum 5 years progressive experience in a field/clinical setting as Paramedic or Registered Nurse.
  • Experience in supervision of staff preferred.
  • EMS educational program development to include learner centered lessons in accordance with national/state certification/recertification curricula, and evaluation systems preferred.
  • Documented teaching experience preferred.
Licensure/certification: Certified Paramedic or Licensed Registered Nurse
  • NREMT preferred
  • Current certification/licensure in the Program state
