How you'll make an impact:
As a systems engineer in the satellite distribution engineering team, you'll contribute to the 24/7 operations of the uplink systems that provide the signals to our satellites that provide content to our subscribers. The scripts and applications developed by you will assist in validation of new features/systems and ameliorate operational visibility of mission-critical functions. This position will expose you to gathering requirements from the customer (Operations, SXM peer teams) to drive requirements, design, and implementation - owned and driven by you. This role will also require ad-hoc infrastructure work - server builds/configuration, racking, OS install, etc - relevant to maintaining, and supporting new features of the uplink systems. You'll work with project managers to define tasks/work items captured as Jira issues. These items fall under a larger roadmap that overall enhances the uplink system. You'll be joining a small, autonomous team and as such, your work product will have a significant impact / quality of life improvement for our team and Operations.
What You'll Do:
- System Architecture and Design: Contribute to the design and architecture of complex systems, focusing on system integrations, reliability, and scalability.
- System Development and Maintenance: Develop and maintain robust systems for data analysis and visualization, utilizing full-stack technologies to enhance the usability and functionality of enterprise systems.
- Advanced System Troubleshooting: Perform high-level remote troubleshooting and problem-solving across multiple platforms and systems, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal performance.
- Operational Support and Leadership: Provide tier-3 on-call operational support, guiding Operators in identifying and resolving critical system issues and implementing long-term solutions.
- Strategic Contributions: Utilize in-depth system knowledge and engineering expertise to contribute to future system designs and requirements, shaping the strategic direction of technology deployments.
- Process Optimization and SOPs: Develop and refine standard operating procedures (SOPs) for system operations, ensuring consistency and quality in system use and maintenance. Train operational teams on new technologies and processes.
- Innovative Technology Exploration: Investigate and prototype the use of advanced enterprise tools and cloud solutions (e.g., AWS, SolarWinds) to enhance system monitoring and operational efficiency.
- Professional Experience: At least 7 years of systems engineering or administration experience, preferably in the telecommunications sector.
- Technical Proficiency: Strong background in systems engineering, including experience with service-oriented architectures, network design, and process workflows.
- Networking Skills: Basic understanding of enterprise network infrastructures, with some exposure to network design, implementation, and troubleshooting. CCNA-level knowledge is preferred but not required.
- Systems Administration: Advanced proficiency in Linux system administration, including scripting and automation with Bash; LPI certification is advantageous.
- Programming and Development: Expertise in programming languages such as Python, Java, and C++; ability to develop and maintain complex full-stack applications.
- Cloud Technologies: Experience with cloud platforms, preferably AWS; cloud certification is highly desired.
- UI Development: Knowledge of UI front-end development is beneficial for overseeing projects that include interface design.
- Leadership and Communication: Excellent public speaking and presentation skills; capable of leading teams and projects while effectively communicating across all levels of the organization.
- Collaboration and Interpersonal Skills: Strong ability to work collaboratively within a team and interact positively with diverse staff.
- Organizational and Management Skills: Proven ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and deliver outcomes within tight deadlines in a dynamic environment.
- Initiative and Problem-Solving: A proactive approach to problem-solving, with a track record of initiating and successfully driving the adoption of new technologies and solutions.
- Agile Methodologies: Extensive experience with Agile development methodologies, demonstrating flexibility and efficiency in managing complex projects.
- Must have the legal right to work in the US.
- Software Proficiency: Advanced computer skills, including proficiency with Jira, Confluence, and the Microsoft Office suite; experience with Google Suite is also required.
- Development Tools: Strong skills in multiple programming languages and frameworks, such as Python, JavaScript, C/C++, Go, Rust, and front-end technologies like ReactJS and Angular.
