services to businesses, individuals, and nonprofits, we are seeking a Tax Manager

to lead and manage multiple operations of the tax practice area and deliver quality tax services to clients and business owners. The Tax Manager serves as a business advisor to our clients aiming to maximize engagement and achieve qualitative outcomes. The chosen professional will work with both internal and external customers and clients to respond to inquiries and resolve issues. This individual will interact with and assists auditors, as necessary to complete audits. The selected candidate will participate in external networking events and meetings to facilitate new business development.

Key priorities: Leads the tax team to deliver a full range of tax services in compliance with laws and regulations within expected timeframe. Prepares and reviews federal and state income taxes for individuals, businesses, estates, benefit funds, partnerships, real estate, and exempt organizations. Builds new and existing client relationships and demonstrates knowledge of client business. Provides innovative tax planning and reviews complex income tax returns. Selects, trains, motivates, and evaluates tax accounting staff and support staff. Works with employees to correct deficiencies; recommend disciplinary actions to Partners and Human Resource Manager. Establishes and maintains a work environment conductive to positive morale, individual style, quality, creativity, and teamwork. Manages tax provision and tax compliance processes. Improves processes by developing or implementing best practices. Stays abreast of tax law changes and technical developments related specifically to tax accounting and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Completes other assignments and projects to meet business needs.

Experience & Competencies: Extensive knowledge of the application of U.S. Federal and state specific tax laws and regulations and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Professional and progressive management/leadership skills Ability to interact effectively and professionally with all levels of individuals both internal and external. Effective and thorough analytical and problem-solving skills. Attentive listening skills to understand what people are communicating. Ability to handle, work with, and maintain confidential and sensitive information. Ability to articulate ideas and information verbally and in writing in a clear, tactful, and diplomatic manner. Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously while remaining calm under pressure. Knowledge of multiple computer software applications, preferably Microsoft Office Suite, QuickBooks, and automated tax and accounting software. Proficient and accurate data entry and keyboarding skills with a strong attention to details. Ability to create and work on documents in various computer software applications efficiently and accurately. Efficient organizational skills.

Specific qualifications include: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Tax, Finance, or related field required. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation OR Enrolled Agent (EA) certification as alternative. Minimum of five years experience in public accounting tax required. Two years experience supervising professional staff preferred. Advanced skills with software applications, preferably Microsoft Office Suite and automated tax and accounting information systems required. Proficient and accurate computer keyboarding skills required. Valid driver’s license, current vehicle insurance, and reliable transportation required.

Job Location: Role has remote flexibility with ideal location being central to one of the 3 Wisconsin offices (Madison, Brookfield, Sauk Prairie) and secondary preference being within 200 miles of corporate HQ in Madison.
