**Description**

**Position Summary:**

This position is responsible for developing and coaching a team of Store Managers who can

successfully execute all company initiatives while ensuring that all financial results meet or exceed plans. It is

the responsibility of the District Manager to facilitate communication from the Regional Manager to the Store

Managers and vice-versa. The District Manager will make certain that all messages across the

District remain consistent. This position will champion and facilitate the execution of all new company

initiatives.

**General Duties and Responsibilities**:

Directly supervises ten to thirteen Store Managers/Supervisors and coaches them to proactively

motivate and effectively manage and support their teams.

Actively develops business partner relationships with the Regional Manager, HR team, and other Corporate Office (FSC) personnel.

Develops and Builds Leadership Talent throughout the District by partnering with HR and Learning &

Development to provide opportunities for high-level performers

Recruits proactively from outside the company in order to improve the overall talent level within the

District and/or district.

Ensures proper and effective execution of new company initiatives and policies.

Reviews District and store performance reports and discusses trends or issues with Store

Managers/Supervisors and coaches them to correct these issues or to take advantage of opportunities.

Ensures good financial results and profitability through execution of the fundamentals of customer

service and operations.

Spends 80% of the time visiting stores. During these visits, the District Manager will balance monitoring

of store performance and compliance with coaching shop personnel on development opportunities.

Focuses on key competitors and growth opportunities within the District and communicates findings to

the Regional Manager. This includes possible store start?ups and acquisitions.

Collects and offers feedback on current programs and communicates identified best practices within

the District to the Regional Manager.

Responds to distinctive features of local Districts to achieve the best results.

Empowers the Store Managers/Supervisors to be decision-makers while staying consistent with

company/district strategies and/or policies.

Controls the District talent level and moves coworkers around to improve performance or respond to

sudden needs.

Builds goodwill and relationships within the communities in which we operate.

**Minimum Qualifications:**

College Degree or Equivalent Experience

Minimum of 5?7 years of management experience, preferably in a multi?unit environment

Ability to multi?task and prioritize

Ability to read and analyze financial reports

Desire and ability to coach and develop others

Experience in leading from a distance

Detail-oriented

Excellent interpersonal, listening, verbal, and written communication skills

Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office, Word, Outlook, and Excel

**Keys to Effectiveness:**

**Ability to Evaluate Talent**. It is essential that the District is staffed with great people at all levels.

Strong bench strength is a must. The District Manager is responsible for evaluating the District team for

successors at each level. Team members that are high performers must be recognized and given

opportunities; weak performers must be discussed with HR and addressed appropriately. Strong

recruiting and hiring skills are traits that will ensure the effectiveness of a District Manager.

**Results and Business Focused.** To be effective, the District Manager must exhibit strong business

acumen in order to properly identify factors influencing performance. The District Manager must

provide a solution and an action plan that will positively affect performance.

**Coaching Skills are Imperative**. Developing a strong team requires that the District Manager use strong

coaching skills to teach and develop the team of Store Managers/Supervisors. Coaching skills should be

used to encourage and grow the behavior and skills that make a Store Manager/Supervisor successful

as well as correcting those behaviors that lessen a Store Managers/Supervisors effectiveness.

**Strong Relationship Building Skills.** The relationships a District Manager builds contribute greatly

to the Districts success. The District Manager must build relationships with those within the district as

well as those outside the district. Effective District Managers provide links to people that can fix a

problem immediately. Each department within the FSC should be seen as a partner in building the

success of the District. In some instances, the District Manager may need to influence without authority

and the existing relationship will determine the success of that influence.

**Good Judgment and Sound Decision Making Skills.** District Managers deal with any number of difficult

situations on a daily basis, ranging from personnel issues to problems with facility maintenance to

customer complaints. In most of these situations, a decision must be made quickly. Even though the

decision is made in a short timeframe, it must always comply with company strategy while meeting the

needs of the store/customer/coworker.
