Job Description THE SALVATION ARMY NORTH CENTRAL ILLINOIS DIVISION TRI-CITY/ST. CHARLES CORPS POSITION DESCRIPTION POSITION TITLE: Custodian LOCATION/DEPT: Tri-City/St. Charles Corps REPORTS TO: Business Facility Director FLSA CATEGORY: Non-Exempt STATUS TYPE: RPT OUTCOMES Keeps Corps building, grounds, and equipment clean and orderly. Picks up donations and drives Corps vehicles as needed. Provides light maintenance and repairs as time allows. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Cleans all areas of building, to include offices, classrooms, chapel, narthex, kitchen gym, food pantry, bathrooms, hallways, and basement. Pantry : Sanitize floors including under the refrigerators and shelving. Clean outside and tops of refrigerators. Every Friday clean the bottom shelves of all refrigerators. Clean all glass. Bathrooms : Clean/disinfect toilets, urinals, partition walls, mirrors and all surfaces including baby changing table. Polish chrome. Mop and disinfect bathroom floor. Restock consumables. Trash : Empty all trash cans, put new liners in and dispose of them into an outside dumpster. Any cardboard trash in the dock area to be flattened and put into an outside recycle dumpster. Dock area to be broom swept daily. Floors: All hardwood floors need to be damp mopped. All carpeting and rugs need to be vacuumed daily. Roll up grate by front door and clean underneath. Disinfect High Touch Areas: Water fountains, door handles, light switches. Glass: Clean both sets of entry glass doors daily. Spot-clean all other internal windows to remove fingerprints and smudges. Kitchen: Clean and disinfect counters, sink, microwave, refrigerators, metal shelf above stove, wall around trash containers and windowsill. Mop floor. Clean refrigerators every Friday. Computer Room: Clean computer screens, vacuum floors, disinfect all areas. Offices: Clean desktops and sanitize phones and keyboards. Vacuum carpets. Conference Room: Clean tables, sanitize sink and microwave, clean refrigerator every Friday. Wash wall around garbage can. Dust bookshelves once per month. Fleet: Every week rotate a fleet vehicle to clean the inside. Chapel: Every Monday dust all work surfaces, vacuum all carpets, and wash inside and out of Narthex windows. Vacuum pews. Monthly Maintenance: High low cleaning - all areas up to 12 feet including vents. Replace air freshener in bathrooms, clean ice machine. Maintain adequate inventories of cleaning supplies - advise Business Facility Director to order as needed. Exterior property upkeep. Sweep sidewalks, entryways, and the parking lot to keep free of leaves and debris when necessary. Empty exterior trash receptacles. General upkeep and basic repairs to facilities and equipment. Requests necessary janitorial and maintenance supplies for order or pick up. Coordinate with Business Facility Director to schedule routine service calls with outside contractors. Room set up, tear down and clean-up for various Corps and outside group programs. Cleans, stores, maintains, and sees to the repair of the equipment needed for the above-mentioned areas of responsibility. Seasonal cleaning of carpets, floors, refrigerators, kitchen range and hood, windows, etc. All other duties assigned. REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS Under the general supervision of the Business Facility Director with some freedom to plan, schedule and carry out responsibilities within established policies and guidelines. In contacts related to this position's duties this individual acts as a representative of The Salvation Army and its mission. PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS This individual will be evaluated on how effectively the outcomes of this position are achieved, as well as the timeliness, accuracy, and completeness of accomplishing assigned goals. A 30, 60, and 90-day performance review will be conducted. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE High School diploma or GED equivalent preferred. Must be able to read and write English. Previous janitorial and/or handyman experience desirable. COMPETENCIES Demonstrated ability to use initiative and be a self-starter. An attention to detail. Good communication and interpersonal skills. Must enjoy working with people of all ages. Supportive of the mission of The Salvation Army. A positive attitude and the ability to be flexible in light of changing job situations/priorities. POSITION LIMITATIONS This individual will only commit Army resources that have been allocated or approved. This individual will keep the Business Facility Director informed on all critical issues relating to their area of responsibility. This individual will adhere to all policies and procedures in carrying out the responsibilities of this position. PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT This position is required to do moderate to heavy physical work and must be able lift up to 25 lbs. daily. In order to successfully perform the essential functions of this position, the employee is regularly required to use standard custodial equipment and operate a motor vehicle. The work environment for this position includes an office, gym, classroom, and dock areas. and an outdoor environment with a low to high noise level. May work outside in inclement weather. Maintain positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters and maintains positive relationships with co-workers and supervisors. This would include but not be limited to such actions: resolution of conflicts in a positive manner; courteous treatment of staff, clients, and visitors; respect of others' property and person, professional and appropriate communication to and about co-workers, supervisors, and subordinates.
