The Role and the Company
Heidelberg Materials is North Americas leading supplier of cement, aggregates, ready mix concrete, and asphalt. We have hundreds of plants and thousands of employees working across the United States and Canada.
The Shipping Supervisor role is based in Nazareth, PA and reports directly to the Sr. Shipping Supervisor. This is a 3rd shift, 10pm-6am position but may include covering a first shift 6am to 2pm position as needed by the operation.
What youll get to do
- Supervise all activities on shift related to loading, shipping and receiving of bulk cement and raw materials
- Make informed decisions, with on shift production supervisor support, about the operation of finishing and shipping production.
- Optimize truck staging and avoid congestion during peak loading hours
- Support Production Supervisor on shift
- Develop SOPs and training plans for the department to eliminate inefficiencies and improve productivity
- Ensure that shipping department equipment is properly maintained and operational through inspection.
- Minimize downtime of shipping production and loading times, by utilizing interdepartmental cooperation to ensure minimal impact to customers.
- Support senior supervisor with cycle counting, equipment inspections, etc.
Essential Experience and Skills
- At least 1 year of experience in a manufacturing companys shipping department
- Good supervisory, leadership, interpersonal, and motivational skills
- Understanding of cement materials and process control systems
- Proficient with Microsoft Office
- Strong attention to detail and analytical skills
- Ability to read mechanical drawing diagrams
- Experienced in industrial safety to provide support and oversight to reports in the field
- Familiarity in DOT requirements for rail and bulk shipments
- Interdepartmental coordination to minimize downtime, optimize production and improve customer experience
- In addition to monitoring the operation of overnight shipping function, supporting the overnight production at our satellite grinding facility
Preferred Experience and Skills
- Experience with Portland cement, coal, pet coke, engineered fuels, biomass and tire derived fuel chips
- Experience with Total Quality programs
- SAP
- Union experience
Work Environment
Role operates in a manufacturing environment with moving mechanical equipment, inclement weather, heat, humidity, elevated noise levels, and dusty conditions.
