The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary
Columbia University Libraries is currently seeking applicants for the position of Library Assistant V in the Department of Drawings & Archives at the Avery Architectural & Fine Arts Library. Avery's Drawings & Archives Collection contains more than 400 collections documenting the practice of architecture and design across a range of creators, including architects, firms, interior designers, preservationists, photographers, critics, historians, and educators largely from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, with a strong focus on New York and American architecture.
Reporting to the Archivist/Collections Manager, the Library Assistant V administers daily operations in the Drawings & Archives Reading Room. Responsibilities include managing appointment requests, assisting department staff with vault maintenance, reference and imaging support, processing and light cataloging, and instructional and exhibition support.
Responsibilities
Registers readers, approve requests, and schedules research appointments.
Instructs and assists researchers in the use of collection material.
Assists in maintenance and coordination of archival collections at onsite and offsite storage facilities.
Ensures the security of material by providing surveillance of readers using valuable drawings and archival material.
Pages, refiles, and assists departmental staff in vault maintenance.
Physically processes archival materials, including (re)foldering and boxing archival materials ranging from photographs to rolled drawings to paper records.
Triages online reference requests and email correspondence.
Assists in processing reader photography and publication requests.
Supports departmental staff with the preparation of materials for class instruction and exhibition loans.
Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma and/or it's equivalent and six months relevant experience required.
Strong customer service skills and attention to detail.
Ability to work with computers.
Strong proficiency with Microsoft products (Word, Excel).
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to recognize needs and prioritize identified tasks.
Ability to interact with a diverse group of colleagues and library users.
Ability to push, pull, and lift up to 40lbs and climb ladders.

Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree.
Previous experience in academic libraries.
Experience with special collections materials.
