Description

SAIC is looking for aGround and Flight Systems Software Engineer to be an integral participant in satellite ground system command and control software requirements development, design analysis, coding, and verification.The member will be an integral participant in satellite ground system command and control requirements development, design analysis, production, and verification. Key areas of focus include ground system full life cycle software procurement from requirements identification and development through system test, sell-off delivery, and installation at operating location.Requires an understanding of computer architectures from both hardware and software perspectives in order to provide analysis and recommendations for ground command and control operations and maintenance and ground system network long-term supportability.Track ground system software development issues and upcoming events – provide status updates to the customer as needed.Identify and assess emerging risks and develop & evaluate proposed burn-down plans.Review developer’s readiness to proceed into factory and site test and evaluation.Member will also be an integral part of spacecraft flight software/command & data handling(CD&H) system requirements definition, development, allocation, design, and verification.Key areas of focus include evaluation of operating modes and a strong understanding of any associated firmware and hardware (e.g. onboard computers, storage, command routing & distribution hardware).

Job Duties include:

  • Provide advice/analysis on ground systems software requirements, design, development, integration, test, deployment, and operations support for the ground system’s command and control, including retrieval of telemetry and mission data from the spacecraft
  • Support the development of architecture, CONOPS, requirements, standards, and roadmaps for open software frameworks and applications
  • Support integration and test activities for incorporating modular command and control capabilities into a common framework
  • Review mission unique equipment obsolescence, monitor health and status of hardware, and track system growth in distributed architecture environment
  • Provide advice concerning flight software/CD&H development – support interface definition with other spacecraft subsystems
  • Coordinate with spacecraft bus development team and ground systems software
  • Coordinate across the Program Office for any proposed specification changes and facilitate integration of changes into the baseline
  • Support security accreditation and SIGINT compliance activities
  • Develop productive relationships with development contractor counterparts, functional counterparts, and other spacecraft, payload, and ground subject matter experts
  • Advise and mentor customer personnel regarding command and control system
  • Represent the government at developer lead release and sprint planning events; ensuring that the government and stakeholder needs are prioritized
  • Engage with Agile Development teams to assess implementation and execution

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • TS/SCI with poly
  • BS in computer science/engineering, or related technical field
  • 5+ years of software domain experience with a BS degree or 3+ years of software domain experience with an MS degree
  • Experience with Agile development programs
  • Working knowledge of DevSecOps practices
  • Working knowledge of flight software/CD&H, planning, scheduling and mission management systems
  • Self-starter with ability to execute job based on limited guidance/information
  • Ability to distill complex problems into digestible structures/formats
  • Flexibility and Time Management - Ability to work efficiently in a dynamic environment with constantly shifting priorities and needs
  • Effective Communicator - convey information to multiple audiences across all levels of Customer and Corporate management
  • Excellent interpersonal, leadership, team building and problem solving skills

Desired Qualifications

  • 9+ years of software domain experience with a BS degree or 7+ years of software domain experience with an MS degree
  • Experience with flight software/CD&H, planning, scheduling and mission management systems
  • Working knowledge of cloud-based software development
  • Certifications such as Certified DevSecOps Professional (CDP), CompTIA Security+, and Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
  • Agile certification
  • Working knowledge of the operations of SIGINT and associated scheduling, tasking and/or mission management functions
  • Working knowledge of SIGINT mission user needs and operational environments
  • Experience working within or closely with Acquisition Offices; SETA and/or SE&I experience
  • Prior ground system experience in on a satellite program (DoD/IC/Commercial)
  • Specific IC Customer experience
