Description

This position will be responsible for the routing and scheduling for all orders and pickups performed by Essex Food Ingredients fleet of trucks. This position will work in conjunction with the warehouse manager and report to the Operations Manager.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Truck Routing & Compliance
  • Utilize Sage X3 system to organize all orders to be delivered on a company truck.
  • Ensure compliance with DOT regulations regarding drivers' hour of service.
  • Collect drivers' documents and paperwork for processing.
  • Schedule drivers to routes to achieve balance of workload and route types assigned to drivers.
  • Schedule all delivery appointments for deliveries with Essex trucks.
  • Communicate with drivers when vehicles need to be dropped for service.
  • Communicate with customers regarding delays or unexpected circumstances.
Support to Staff and Other Departments
  • Proactively eliminates potential for freight issues in cooperation with customer service.
  • Works closely with customer service department to ensure proper freight routing.
  • Serves as backup for Customer Service functions as needed.
  • Communicate with customer service to ensure available capacity for daily delivery routes & adjust properly to service customers.
  • Coordinate with Purchasing for planning and scheduling of local pickups on company trucks.
  • Serve as SQF Practitioner for the site and oversee all SQF programs / activities as defined under item 2 in EFI-JD-001-FR
  • In the case of absence, the Frazer SQF Practitioner will fulfill the role of SQF Practitioner, and the Director of Operations will assume all necessary operational and administrative duties related to the warehouse.
  • Ensures warehouse team is complying with all procedural or documentation requirements as they relate to SQF (Safe Quality Food) or general safety.
Backup for Freight Tracking and Management
  • Communication with Carriers regarding rates, routing, and web site navigation
  • Responsible for the movement of goods by a common carrier
  • Carrier discussions regarding lost shipments and service levels
Clerical/General Administrative
  • Responds to routine emails, phone calls, etc.
  • Assist with scheduling inbound dock appointments.
  • Makes copies, prints documents, mail delivery, etc.
  • Files paperwork.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Experience
  • Knowledge and skills at a level normally acquired through the completion of some college coursework or postsecondary schooling preferred.
  • High school degree or general education degree (GED) required.
  • 3-5 years of professional experience routing or dispatching small trucking fleets.
Specialized Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Detail oriented, organized, highly accurate, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Conscientious and flexible to the changing needs and demands of work.
  • Able to work independently and demonstrate initiative in decision making in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong team building skills; gains the trust and respect of colleagues and direct reports.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Sage X3 experience a plus, strong WMS skills on other platforms preferred.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office, particularly proficient in Outlook and Excel.
  • DOT Transportation knowledge
  • Truck Routing/Scheduling Experience Preferred
WORKING CONDITIONS:

Working Hours/Environment
  • Office hours are 40 per week Monday Friday, 7:00am 3:30pm; may require additional hours periodically, including evening and weekends depending on business needs.
  • Work typically performed in an indoor office setting.
  • Occasional exposure to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; dust, outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock; and vibrations.
  • Moderate to loud noise level.
Tools and Equipment Used
  • Personal computer, copier, fax/scanner, phone, and other typical office equipment.
Travel
  • Minimal less than 5% of the time
Physical & Mental Demands
  • Frequently required to sit at a desk/workstation for long period of time.
