ResponsibilitiesBasic Duties and Responsibilities:
Utilizes a sound knowledge of the principles, legalities, and best practices of purchasing to oversee the procurement of goods and services essential for the company's operations and safety initiatives. Develops purchasing and storeroom strategies for team of buyers and storeroom employees; maintains positive, lasting relationships with suppliers; collaborates with internal teams to understand their needs; and ensures that procurement activities are cost-effective and efficient.
Key Responsibilities (Other duties may be assigned):
- Purchasing
- Understands the commodities markets for proactive and optimal purchasing of scrap and raw materials. Able to communicate effectively to stakeholders as needed.
- Develop and maintain strategic supplier relationships.
- Develops, organizes, and oversees processes and activities related to contract management, policies, and the entire procurement function.
- Supports various departments by reviewing, processing, and expediting purchase requests to ensure correct specifications, best pricing and conformance to company policies.
- Develops systems that help ensure zero missed discounts and late invoice payments.
- Works with various production and support departments in the development of suppliers and specifications for equipment, as well as trialing of products or substitute materials.
- Supplier Management
- Develops suppliers and maintains approved vendor list through audits and scorecards.
- Resolves quality issues and claims with scrap metal suppliers.
- Works with internal team members and suppliers on disposal projects and rework MRO items.
- Works with suppliers and corporate to negotiate contracts, terms, and pricing.
- Inventory Management
- Ensures best storeroom practices are in place for optimal buys and establishes systems that improve and assure accurate inventories.
- Supports the team in monthly raw material and annual storeroom inventories.
- Reviews all inventory data to ensure proper levels are in place to optimally support maintenance and production.
- Confirms and maintains integrity and accuracy of vendor managed inventories and machines.
- Risk Management
- Collaborates with safety to ensure the purchase, availability, and compliance of proper PPE.
- Analyzes scrap and raw material market and delivery conditions to determine present and future material availability, reporting as needed.
- Ensures all products are double sourced.
- Has an awareness of global issues and US regulations and how they will affect us and our suppliers.
- Handles international orders and shipments, ensuring due diligence in all transactions.
- Team Management and Continuous Improvement
- Cultivates leadership and drives excellence and accountability to achieve a high-performance team - implementing best practices related to cost, quality, accuracy.
- Develops the skills of each team member and maintains a culture of continuous improvement.
- Maintains a safe environment that encourages and nurtures openness and trust.
- Drives departmental goals and communicates employee performance expectations. Coaches as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree with 8 years in a purchasing role in a manufacturing industry (preferred) or High School diploma/GED with 12 years purchasing experience.
- Working knowledge and track record of implementing best practices in purchasing / inventory management
- Knowledge of production materials and services, industrial PPE, and manufacturing processes required.
- Must be flexible but have a sense of urgency with the ability to manage time and priorities.
- Must be analytical and detail oriented.
- Must have strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to discuss issues in group settings.
- Computer literate; proficient with Microsoft Windows, MS Office programs and applications. Experience in Sage, JD Edwards, Maximo, or Microsoft Dynamics is highly preferred.
- APICS/ASCM CPIM or CSCP preferred.
- Ability to work with a diverse group of people and encourage and motivate people to take ownership and pride in their work. Demonstrated experience with driving and maintaining change
