We have an opening for a dynamic and experienced leader to join us as a Business Unit Leader, Western Virginia. The Business Unit Leader is responsible for the strategy of their respective business unit as well as contribute to company strategy. The Business Unit Leader will be a self-starter with a strategic, entrepreneurial, and high integrity-oriented mindset, and can tackle the hands-on challenges associated with a growing organization. This role will be an integral member of the Hourigan Leadership Team and will report to the President.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the management, oversight, growth, and profitability of the Business Unit.
  • Set strategy and vision for the Business Unit that aligns with Hourigan's strategic goals.
  • Partner with the Vice President, Western Virginia Operations to set the annual Business Unit plan, including financial goals and critical objectives, for the group to meet or exceed.
  • Delivers to Hourigan's commitment to Organizational Excellence.
  • Key player in business development efforts through community involvement, outreach and networking.
  • Involved in the Go/No-Go process for deciding which projects the Business Unit and organization should pursue.
  • Handle owner contract negotiations and contract review.
  • Manage the transition of projects between Preconstruction and the Vice President, Western Virginia Operations.
  • Create "raving fans" by building and maintaining trusted relationships with clients and industry partners.
  • Coach and develop team members to grow within the organization and take on increased levels of responsibility.
  • Foster and cultivate a culture that aligns with Hourigan's mission and values, and to drive the corporate goal to be a 'Great Place to Work.'
  • Seen as a thought leader across the organization and the industry.
  • Collaborate with other leaders to achieve optimum results for our company and our project owners.
  • Participate in the Hourigan Safety and Health Management System (SHMS) by committing to safe work practices, raising concerns, attending and applying safety and health training, and eliminating hazards within your capability and control and the help of safety staff.
  • Provide resources and support to ensure positive safety and health outcomes in line with the Hourigan SHMS.
Qualifications and Experience:
  • B.S. in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field position or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 15+ years of industry experience working with a variety of jobs.
  • At least 10+ years' experience working with a Construction Manager with previous experience working on jobs greater than $50 million.
  • Extensive experience and knowledge of Construction estimating, means and methods, accounting, document administration, and a thorough understanding of industry practices.
  • Application of LEED certifications is preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required.
  • Experience with Primavera, MS Project, Textura, Procore, and Bluebeam preferred.
  • Applies a customer-centric mindset to all work efforts.
  • Possess an innate ability to lead a team and empower others to drive results.
  • Approach every responsibility and interaction with a high level of integrity, fairness, care, and concern.

  • Travel will be required.
