Job Summary:
We are looking for a Fiber Splicer to join our growing team. The Fiber Splicer will be responsible for installing and maintaining fiber optic cables in both outdoor and indoor settings. We are looking for individuals who are comfortable leaders, but also thrive working independently, with knowledge of the telecommunications construction industry.
Job Responsibilities (Including, but not limited to):
- Resolve, repair, and install fiber optic systems and ensure they function properly
- Examine and replace faulty and old fiber optic cables
- Organize scheduled maintenance routines
- Take care of fiber splicing and rectify fiber optic problem areas
- Formulate and maintain system records and system designs
- Work alongside the team to ensure team members are on task, work is productive, and all safety regulations are adhered to
- Coordinate tasks according to priorities and plans
- Read blueprints, drawings, and plans
- Represent WhiteCo in a positive and professional manner at all times
- Clean and maintain all company vehicles and equipment assigned for use
- Perform duties in standard and high-risk areas
- Safely and successfully perform duties all year round
- Perform physical tasks required to successfully complete day-to-day operations
- Travel overnight to various sites as requested
- Understand all installation aspects of underground and aerial facilities, including blueprints, drawings and plans
- 1 year of recent splicing experience
- Valid Driver's License (unrestricted)
- Basic computer skills
- Pass a pre-employment drug test and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR)
- Ability to operate all equipment safely and productively
- Strong interpersonal communication skills with the ability to interact with the crew, leadership, and clients
- Function effectively as an integral part of a team
- Meet physical demands - lift and/or move 50 to 150 pounds as well as stand and walk lengthy distances (1+ miles) over uneven terrain
- Ability to perform all work outdoors, subject to inclement weather conditions
- Working knowledge of single & ribbon splicing
- Testing capabilities with OTDR, IOLM, OLTS
- Knowledge of Fosc & Coyote enclosures
- Data center splicing
- Bucket truck & confined space experience
Fiber Splicer I
- End-of-Line Fiber Network Testing: Testing light levels at the end of fiber networks is crucial to ensure proper signal transmission and network performance.
- Supporting Higher Tech Levels: Assist higher-level technicians in their daily tasks, which may include troubleshooting network issues, configuring equipment.
- Site Safety Setup: Set up site safety measures, such as warning signs, barriers, or temporary fencing, to ensure the safety of technicians and the public at the work site.
- Cable Prep: Ensure that cables are properly labeled and organized to minimize errors during installation.
Fiber Splicer II

- Build Fiber Cases and Enclosures: Constructing fiber cases and enclosures involves creating protective housings for fiber optic equipment and connections
- Splice Color for Color Fibers: When splicing fiber optic cables together, technicians match the colors of the fibers to ensure that the correct fibers are connected.
- Cable Management: Organize the cables neatly within the enclosure, ensuring that they are properly routed and secured to prevent tangling or damage.
- Sealing and Placement of Case: Ensuring that the enclosure is properly closed and secured to protect the equipment and cables inside from environmental elements.
Fiber Splicer III

- Read Prints and Maps: Examine Splice Matrix and redline maps to understand fiber routes and assignments.
- Splice off color and multiple cables in one enclosure.
- Jumping Trays: Routing fibers from one tray to another, possibly to optimize cable management, minimize signal loss, or create efficient pathways within the enclosure.
- Splice Tie Point and Jumper Cases: Splicing fibers at a tie point involves connecting fibers from different cables. Connect Jumper cables between jumper cases.
Fiber Splicer IV
- All job competencies of a Fiber Splicer I, II, and III
- Rehab gel-filles cases: The process of refurbishing or rehabilitating gel-filled enclosures used in fiber optic networks.
- Redlining and Documentation: Marking up or annotating existing drawings or documents with changes, updates, or corrections.
- Case swaps and audits: Replacing one equipment case or enclosure with another.
- Troubleshooting: Identifying, diagnosing, and resolving issues that can affect the performance and reliability of the network.
