Primary Purpose of Position:

The role of the Accounting Supervisor will support Stow by performing complex accounting activities and financial analyses.Day to day tasks include, but are not limited to, supervision of the Accounts Receivable team, payroll and benefit entry and reporting, sales and use tax management, account reconciliations, supporting financial and tax audits, supporting more complex accounting projects and initiatives in the accounting and other departments. This position is full time and located at our corporate headquarters in downtown Holland, Michigan.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates with HR to account for payroll and benefits, including, but not limited to:
  • Oversees the AR team, ensuring daily processes are performed, including but not limited to Invoicing, Collections, AR Aging management by channel, EDI review, RTV review and submission.This role is expected to be in the details with the AR team.Will be trained as a backup to perform AR tasks and should plan to process transactions.
  • Collaborates with the Accounting Manager by supporting daily, monthly, and year-end tasks, as well as training and mentoring of junior staff members.

    • Vacation and holiday accruals
    • HSA allocations
    • Workers' comp
    • Quarterly/Annual bonus calculations
    • Insurance billings
    • Payroll control totals
  • Manages weekly and monthly temporary labor entries and reconciliations.
  • Manages sales tax compliance, including the collection and remittance, reporting, compliance, and support system integrity.
  • Maintains and manages Avalara external tax system.
  • Manages use tax collection, remittance, compliance, processes, reviews, and audits.
  • Initiates and supports continuous improvement project execution within the department and/or related departments.
  • Ensures integrity of accounting information by recording, verifying, consolidating, and entering transactions.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality of personal and company-protected data..
  • Assists in financial and tax audits, including preparation of documents to the external auditors.
  • Maintains detailed reconciliations of balance sheet accounts assigned.
  • Aids and completes month-end and year-end closings.
  • Researches, interprets, and communicates data through analysis and ad-hoc reporting.
  • Provides detailed analysis and explanations of all transactions, as necessary.
  • Complies with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) for financial statements.
  • Lives company values daily.

The Stow Company may temporarily assign any team member with duties outside of their normal responsibilities.Such assignments may be warranted due to a variety of specific requirements, conditions and/or the capabilities of available personnel.Management will determine the nature and duration of those assignments.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in Accounting/Finance or equivalent position.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Advanced computer skills, specific to Microsoft Excel, also including Smartsheet, other Office Products; ERP system usage (Manage 2000 or SAP desirable).
  • High standards for accuracy and precision; ensure compliance with GAAP and internal controls.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Organized, detailed oriented, flexible and easily adaptable to changing conditions in fast paced work environment.
  • Articulates with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to think creatively, highly driven, and self-motivated.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Interpersonal skills in order to work effectively with individuals both internally and externally to The Stow Company
  • Must have excellent customer service skills.
  • Must have the ability to interface with all levels of personnel in an office and a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to take the initiative and work well independently with little supervision, and as part of a team.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • On site
  • Sitting at workstation approximately 90 percent of work time
  • Standing and walking approximately 10 percent of work time
  • Must be able to travel between plant and office locations.
  • Ability to work overtime or occasionally on weekends with short notice.
  • Typical office environment with shelves overhead and above work surfaces
  • Manufacturing environment with multiple machinery and moving parts.
