The Vice President position provides division-wide leadership and direction for standards that meet the varied and complex needs of multiple affordable housing compliance programs. This position works closely with internal teams to integrate compliance, ethics, and exceptional customer service into organizational culture and operations. This position also partners with clients to achieve and maintain regulatory compliance. It has the independence to work remotely, which allows directed focus while still being supported by and immersed in a company that is leading the affordable compliance industry. The ideal candidate should have extensive experience in leadership and operations of Compliance Programs for all types of Affordable Housing programs, including Low Income Housing Tax Credit/LIHTC (Section 42), tax-exempt bond, Section 8, HOME, HUD, and Rural Development. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES Actively engage by attending and participating in required meetings and joining at least one Connect Group. Analyze potential risks to avoid compliance issues. Assist with special projects as needed; other duties as assigned by supervisor or established in written processes/procedures. Communicate with client partners via telephone and/or email to answer their questions regarding affordable housing compliance program requirements. Convey understanding of the comments and questions of others by listening effectively. Coordinate the implementation of policies and procedures, identify compliance gaps and opportunities for improvement, and ensure that team members are taking the proper steps to address relevant rules or requirements. Coordinate with Human Resources for matters pertaining to performance management. Create a pleasant and productive work environment. Develop effective and efficient processes, procedures, policies, forms, training modules, and related manuals to ensure that best practices are used in ensuring continuous demands are met. Develop team members’ knowledge and skills. Establish an annual budget and lead organization to meet the determined financial targets. Establish and maintain good relationships with our clients. Establish compliance priorities. Exercise common sense, good judgment, consistency, and self-control in day-to-day interactions. Explore troubled areas for root causes and potential remedies. Forecast staffing needs. Interpret laws and regulations to provide compliance guidance both internally and externally as appropriate. Keep current on all updates and changes in affordable housing programs and requirements within assigned portfolio. Lead and support a nationwide team of 130+ while overseeing compliance adherence for 2,700+ sites. Manage team members’ work balance, productivity, and performance. Participate in annual employee evaluations and periodic quality assurance controls to ensure full compliance with all regulatory and job requirements. Participate in meetings with upper management, as needed or requested, to discuss departmental activity and review progress. Provide leadership direction and oversight. Provide thorough written communication to escalate certification deficiencies and other important information as appropriate. Talk and act with internal and external customers in mind. Take ownership of responsibilities by being proactive, solution-oriented, accountable, and committed to continuous improvement. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES A minimum of 5 years leadership experience. A minimum of 10 years of certification auditing experience in affordable housing. Ability to apply reason, logic, and advanced problem-solving skills to resolve complex issues in a professional manner. Ability to display a positive, enthusiastic attitude to motivate and coach staff. Attention to detail, time management, and organizational skills. Demonstrate flexibility to work well under pressure and a sense of urgency to successfully meet deadlines. Exceptional communication and presentation skills including involvement with executive level communications. Professional, clear and concise oral and written communication skills with proven ability to effectively communicate with diverse groups such as customers, supervisors, and teammates. Self-starter and independent worker with the ability to work both individually and in teams. Working knowledge of the requirements of the LIHTC, HUD, RD, BOND, HOME, MFTE, HTF, and CDBG programs.
