In this role, the successful candidate Under supervision performs routine phlebotomy and laboratory central receiving duties. Prepares specimens for send-outs to Reference Laboratories and results reports into the laboratory computer system./ppJob Responsibilities:/polliPhlebotomy/Capillary Collection/li/olulliProperly greets patient./liliProperly identifies patient./liliPrepares patient in an appropriate position./liliAssembles appropriate material. (Tubes, gloves, etc.)/liliSelects appropriate tubes for tests ordered/liliFollows IC procedures (Gloves, Hand washing)/liliFollows order of draw in multiple specimen collection./liliPerforms proper site sterilization techniques (preparation)/liliProperly labels and documents tubes and label sets./liliKnows appropriate site selection and exclusions (i.e. scarring, mastectomy)/liliFollows proper procedure for Blood Culture Collection./liliFollows policies and procedures for sharps disposals./liliNormal Draw technique/liliFinger stick technique/liliHeel stick technique/liliButterfly technique/liliKeeps a clean, neat and professional working appearance/liliKeeps a clean, neat and professional working phlebotomy tray./liliPatient left in a safe manner, bed rails up./liliPerforms EKGs correctly./li/ulol start=2liCustomer Service and Patient Care/li/olulliExplains procedure and reassures patient./liliProtects privacy of patient. Central Receiving (Specimen Processing)/pulliUnderstands general computer operation for this area./liliPrepares document in computer or deletion, addition or changes in order./liliProperly documents all pertinent patient information./liliVerifies and processes samples in an organized and timely fashion./liliDelivers Separately all STAT requests to sections./liliNotes in computer any specimen integrity issues./liliRelay to supervisor any conflict in specimen identification or labeling./liliHandles equipment in accordance to laboratory policy./liliCompletes work or explains to coverage appropriate stage of processing and outstanding issues./liliIdentifies need for written (faxed) requests for patients results from non-staff physicians/liliProper procedure for picking up samples from Ambulatory Surgery area/liliKnowledge of computer downtime procedure./liliAbility to handle light stock./liliResponsible to make sure adequate supplies are in the area./liliWorks collaboratively with other staff to maintain cleanliness of work environment and equipment. (ie. Carts, EKG machine)./liliAssists with prevention of transmission of infection by adhering to Standard Precautions as evidenced by effective handwashing techniques./liliRecognizes safety hazards and acts promptly and appropriately./li/ulp2. Reference Laboratory Sendouts/pulliOrganize work to complete in a timely fashion./liliUnderstands process of lab necessary and specimen integrity./liliInvestigate unusual tests for proper collection and transport./liliIdentifies appropriate Reference Lab for analysis./liliNotifies supervisor of unusual issues or specimens./liliDirects to Pathologist requests requiring approval./liliInforms coverage of appropriate stage of processing and any outstanding issues./liliAble to transmit electronic orders/liliKnowledge of proper specimen submission to reference lab./liliKnowledge of manual billing process for Miscellaneous reference tests./li/ulp3. Resulting and Reporting/pulliProperly faxes reports to Physicians offices/liliKnows complete process for manual and electronic reporting./liliHandles phone conversation in polite and complete manner/liliNotifies Supervisor of any unusual report, or phone request./liliDistributes manual reports to appropriate location./liliAssists in processing or outpatient area when necessary./li/ulpMinimum Qualifications: To qualify you must have a High School diploma Phlebotomy Certificate Preferred or other Equivalent documentation and/or 5 years experience General Office skills (Typing, Filing, Phone) General Computer skills General Organizational Skills Knowledge of OSHA Regulations Knowledge of Standard precautions Must possess a valid drivers license/p/div
