SUMMARY:

Performs a variety of healthcare environmental services (EVS) duties to enhance the healthcare environment by maintaining the location assigned. Responsible for providing a safe, and hygienic environment for the benefit of patients, visitors, and staff. Follows special healthcare cleaning and trash handling techniques as required, ensuring professional and appropriate service standards while performing the job. Responsible for ensuring timely room cleans, especially as it relates to hospital patient throughput and responds favorably to requests to adjust daily workflow or area assignment to meet hospital/discharge flow needs. The EVS worker, in accordance with standards of quality, is an essential contributor to hospital disinfection and infection prevention. Ensures the very best patient/family/customer experience by optimizing all customer interactions.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Following Ten Step Cleaning Procedure with special emphasis on visual inspection of area upon completion to ensure appropriate levels of cleanliness and neatness have been achieved.
* Adheres to isolation procedures.
* Washes hands frequently and changes cleaning water frequently.
* Reports hazards in the workplace to Supervisor.
* Properly disposes of wax, stripper, and other floor care chemicals.
* Observes standard precautions at all times, included but not limited to: When cleaning patient rooms/areas and also when handling soiled linens.
* Following established cleaning procedures with special emphasis on visual inspection of area upon completion to ensure appropriate levels of cleanliness and neatness have been achieved.
* Demonstrates knowledge of how to handle hazardous waste safely and appropriately, following safety rules and guidelines.
* Ensures transfer, mixing and handling of hazardous materials are in accordance with policy and regulation. Ensures that all bottles/containers are clearly and properly labeled.
* Maintains log of cleaning duties performed indicating project locations, and time spent completing tasks.
* Supports performance improvement.
* Supports environment of care program.
* Performs duties in a timely manner.
* Demonstrates ability to read MSDS.
* Demonstrates knowledge of how to perform individual duties during disasters, tornado, bomb threat, infant abduction situation and/or hostage situation.
* Keeps abreast of pertinent federal, and state regulations and laws and Tift Regional Health System, Inc. ("TRHS") policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified.
* Understands and adheres to: TRHS' compliance standards as they appear in TRHS's Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy; and HIPAA and TRHS policies regarding privacy and security of protected health information.
* Demonstrates the ability to perform tasks that meet the age-specific requirements of the persons, patients, vendors, and staff that the employee is charged to interact with as required by the position.
* Offers suggestions on ways to improve operations of department and reduce costs.
* Attends all mandatory education programs.
* Improves self-knowledge through voluntarily attending continuing education/certification classes.
* Maintains required competency levels as identified in written exams, skills checklists, skills labs, annual safety and health requirements as well as service excellence education hours requirements.
* Cross-trains in order to better assist co-workers and to provide maximum efficiency in the department.
* Volunteers/participates on hospital committees, functions, and department projects.
* Manages resources effectively.
* Reports equipment in need of repair in order to extend life of equipment and removes malfunctioning equipment out of service with timely reporting to the appropriate personnel.
* Makes good use of time so as to not create needless overtime.

EDUCATION:

*Highschool diploma or GED preferred
