JOB SUMMARY: SUNY Sullivan faculty has the primary responsibility of teaching and assessing student learning. Faculty duties include teaching, advising, working toward continuous improvement to pedagogy and discipline specific content, and service to the College through shared governance and sharing one's expertise in Sullivan County. A Faculty member reports to the chair of the academic division to which the individual faculty member assigned. The incumbent is a member of the Professional Staff Association. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: * Master's degree in subject area or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience * New York State Licensure as a Respiratory Therapist * Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credentialed by the National Board * Experience: minimum of four years as a Registered Respiratory Therapist, of which at least two (2) years should have been spent in clinical Respiratory care and at least two (2) years in a teaching position in an accredited Respiratory care program. * Excellent written verbal, interpersonal and organizational skills * Computer proficiency * Demonstrated professionalism, positive work ethic, and positive attitude which reflect both integrity and empathy in working with students. * Demonstrated capacity to engage in productive collaborative work with a range of colleagues. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Teaching and Assessing Student Learning * Teaching faculty will teach the courses assigned to them in collaboration with their Division chair (Note: Workload is set by the contract between Sullivan County Community College and the Professional Staff Association). * Faculty is expected to secure optimum progress on the part of students through exercising resourcefulness, varying classroom procedure, and demonstrating a genuine and contagious interest in the subject s/he teaches in order to stimulate the interest and the intellectual curiosity of her/his students, and to inspire students to think for themselves. * Faculty is expected to advise an average of 20 students per semester (or a direct a student success project mutually agreed upon in consultation with the VP in lieu of advising). As an advisor, faculty will assist students with schedule-making and be available to discuss a variety of topics of concern to the student. Faculty should demonstrate an appreciation and respect for students, a patient and tactful manner of meeting them on common ground, and an appreciation of their viewpoint in order to establish a personal rapport with advisees that engenders trust, disclosure, help-seeking, and respect. * Faculty will maintain one office hour per week for consultation with students for each three credits taught, with a minimum of four. To the extent practicable, such office hours should be distributed throughout the week. Scholarship * Faculty is expected to demonstrate continued specialization in/increased command of one's special field through: graduate study, independent study, creative work, conferences, research, publication, workshops, webinars, pursuit and attainment of professional degrees, mentoring of professionals, consulting, and/or travel and related experience. * Faculty is expected to demonstrate continued specialization in/increased command of the scholarship of teaching through: graduate study, independent study, creative work, conferences, research, publication, workshops, webinars, pursuit and attainment of professional degrees, mentoring of professionals, consulting, and/or travel and related experience. * Faculty is expected to serve as active members of professional societies in one's field, as demonstrated by participation in events, conferences, and/or workshops, work on committees, service, and leadership roles. Service to the College * Faculty is expected to assume responsibility for participating in College activities and to work constructively within them to further the mission, vision, and strategic directions of the College. This includes: * Contributing to educational programs and administrative work of the College through active and responsible participation on faculty committees, volunteering for ad hoc committees or projects. * Contributing to the instructional division or unit through active and responsible participation on one or more projects which contribute to the Division or Unit, volunteering for ad hoc committees or projects that serve to further the vision and mission of the Division or Unit. * Providing student mentoring and/or assistance to student organizations through involved mentoring, and/or serving as a club advisor, a project coordinator/collaborator for student events, or the supervisor of one or more work-study students. * Establishing high-quality relationships to the community through active and engaged involvement in ongoing community work or multiple events, particularly where that work supports values espoused in the Mission of the college.
