Essential Job Functions - ResponsibilitiesPerform all functions in a safe manner adhering to established policies and proceduresProjects and assignments are typically high complexity where some precedents exist conducted under low supervisionProject management of large cross-functional teams and projectsResearch / evaluate proposals, cost implications, feasibility, etc for potential projects, and make recommendationsEvaluate, define, and author specifications for new product designsDesign or modify products by researching / recommending parts and assembliesCreate solid models of parts and assemblies, generate drawings and bill of material (BOM)Perform finite element analysis (FEA)Actively participate in or lead design discussions and propose ideas for superior product designsAssemble / build prototypes. Make, modify, procure parts as needed.Create verification test plans and/or conduct testing. Contribute to the creation of validation test plans.Interpret test results and create test reports.Provide support to other departments or customers to resolve technically complex issues as neededCreate / modify, or assist in the creation / modification of, work instructions, technical manuals, etc requiring Engineering inputPossess an in-depth understanding of the operating principles of Alpha Technologies' products. Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) in the theory and role an instrument serves in the industry.Participate in or lead process improvement initiativesComplete sustaining engineering tasks such as product change notices (PCN's)Travel to customer sites and provide support during installation, troubleshooting, and/or discuss customer needsWork in cross functional teams and provide technical support to other engineering groups, other departments, vendors, and customersWork in highly collaborative inter-disciplinary team consisting of mechanical, electrical, and firmware engineersEducation - Experience - QualificationsBachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering required. Master's degree preferred. 5+ years of experience with CAD modeling and drawing creation required. Experience with FEA required.Experience with machine design and/or automation systems requiredLean / Six Sigma experience (Green Belt) with certification preferredExperience working in the rubber and/or plastic industry, or physical testing of rubber and/or plastic in another industry, beneficialSelf-motivated, self-directed, good communication skills (written and oral), excellent teamwork skillsDesire to accept new challenges and learn new tasks to grow professionallyPhysical DemandsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
