DescriptionAs directed by the Car Repair Manager or Car Repair Supervisor responsible for performing maintenance and repair of railcars.Essential Functions:Responsible for service delivery for repair of railroad cars for customers of Cranemasters. Accomplish work assignments ensuring safety, efficiency, and work quality.Cranemasters is a 24/7 emergency response provider to the railroad industry. As such, employees are subject to emergency call-out at any time. In addition, while this position is a part of the Car Repair Department, work assignments are subject to change. Shifts and hours of work are also subject to change.Prepares for daily work by ensuring that equipment, tools, and materials are on vehicle(s) for transport to job site. Inspects vehicle prior to leaving for work assignment ensuring safety of vehicle, equipment/materials to be transported and other team members.Actively participates in job briefings and reinforces commitment to safety of other crew members through identification of potential areas of concern.Actively participates in task accomplishment as required for project completion assisting other team members as required. Ensures work completion via delivery of quality repairs, welding, and fabrication for maintenance of customers' railcars.Establishes and maintains positive/professional customer and co-worker relationships throughout project.Upon completion of project/operations ensures that work truck supplies, equipment, materials, and tools are restored to established level of cleanliness and operational condition. Re-stocks supplies for vehicles and equipment upon return to home base.Sorts scrap into appropriate location.Adheres to Cranemasters policies, procedures, and work processes.Performs all duties which ensure the safe, smooth, and efficient functioning of the department.Ensures required paperwork for various jobs is completed correctly and in a timely manner.Required Skills and Experience:Possesses technical skills necessary to carry out welding and fabrication assignments.Strong and proactive communication skills.Through understanding of and adherence to safety policies and procedures.Must project positive and professional image to customers and co-workers.Able to read, write and speak English.Must pass qualification tests as required (examples: CPR, First Aid, etc.).Demonstrated understanding of major freight car components.Demonstrated understanding of how to use the AAR Field Manual.Demonstrated understanding of "Blue Flag Law" as it relates to railroad workers.Demonstrated knowledge of AAR Interchange Rules and FRA Power Brake and Safety Appliance Standards.Physical Demands:Constantly on feetWalking / carrying loads on uneven surfaces and in ballast.Working in ALL weather conditions.Working extended hours.Constant bending, twisting, stooping, standing and / or walking.Regular lifting of up to 50 pounds; loads more than 50 pounds and which can be reduced, should be made lighter.Employee must obtain assistance when lifting items weighing more than 75 pounds, or items which present ergonomic challenges in lifting/movement/placement.Note:Cranemasters is a 24/7 emergency service provider to the railroad industry and as such, the Car Repairman will be subject to work outside of normal working hours including nights, weekends and/or holidays.
