Job Description

ENSCO is seeking a Mid-Level Research Civil Engineer with at least 3 years of experience within the transportation industry to provide engineering services, including instrumentation system installation and operations, in support of research, testing and training services to the surface transportation (e.g., rail, trucking, bus, automotive) industry.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Writing research and/or test plans, test reports.

Conducting research/testing on track systems and/or track system components.

Analyzing test and simulation data.

Installation of instrumentation sensors (strain gages, accelerometers, displacement sensors, etc).

Operation of data acquisition systems during testing operations in laboratory, on track, and remotely.

Reading and interpreting test plans, schedules and other written instructions received from the test engineers and project managers.

Preparing accurate daily logs as required by the Company, FRA, and other governing agencies.

Being accountable for compliance of all operating rules, policies, and guidelines.

Attending rules and safety classes to ensure all rules are followed as directed by the Company, FRA, and other governing agencies.

Any other duties as assigned by the Company.

Export Control and Licensing

This position may involve access to technology or technical data that is controlled under U.S. export control laws and regulations and the release of which to a foreign national may require an export license from the U.S. Government.

Qualifications Desired

  • Advanced degree with 3+ years' experience in transportation systems
  • Active contributor in relevant professional organizations within the transportation industry (ASME, SAE, SEM, among others)
  • Experience in specifying and installing instrumentation systems
  • Experience performing railroad track studies (analysis and testing)
  • Experience performing railroad track systems studies (analysis and testing). This includes interaction among track, ties, fasteners, and ballast
  • Experience in pavement roadways analysis and testing

Qualifications Required (Skills)

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering program or equivalent
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience
  • Experience with solid mechanics, structures, and soil mechanics
  • Background in Engineering Instrumentation
  • Knowledge of Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
  • Ability to be flexible in a fast pasted environment
  • Ability to observe all safety and security procedures; determine appropriate action beyond guidelines; report potentially unsafe conditions; use equipment and materials properly
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to build professional and courteous relationships with your colleagues and supervisors
  • Must be able to work independently and as part of a diverse interdisciplinary team
  • Must be able to safely climb a 15-foot-high ladder
Railroad regulations require that the selected candidate must pass an e-RAILSAFE security background check and online safety tests to work on railroad properties. Wearing safety equipment (hardhat, steel-toe boots, protective vest and protective eyeglasses) when working on railroad properties is required. ENSCO will provide all necessary safety equipment.

This safety sensitive position will be subject to drug and alcohol screening.
