Overview:

The Program Director is responsible for supervising staff, coaching them, and holding them accountable to facilitate safe, fun, and intentional activities for campers. The Program Director assists Cabin Counselors to care for campers in the cabins ensuring that the space is clean and safe, campers are clean and healthy, and managing the social dynamic within the cabin.

Specific Duties:
  • Program Director Specific Tasks
    • Ensure Program Staff have safe, intentional, fun activities planned in advance to facilitate daily.
    • Ensure that Program Staff are keeping their areas and equipment are safe, clean, and usable.
    • Ensure that Program Staff have appropriate plan B's to account for mishaps, weather, and supply issues
    • Ensure that Program Staff have worked with the Camp Director supply needs in a timely manner
    • Plan or delegate planning evening program
    • Facilitate or delegate facilitating evening program
    • Report facility issues to the Property Manager in a timely manner
    • Complete paperwork such as incident reports, grant reporting, and more as assigned by camp leadership and the office manager
    • When not working in the program area, be with the assigned cabin assisting Cabin Staff in ensuring that campers are safe, supervised, and well cared for.
    • Must be able to use hands and fingers to help facilitate programs
    • Must be able to stand, walk, kneel, sit for long periods of time
    • Must have great communication skills, both verbal and written
  • General Camp Tasks
    • Follow all camp rules and ensure that staff and campers are as well.
    • Abide by Personnel Policies & Procedures of the ULBGC Camp.
    • Follow all State of Wisconsin, American Camp Association, and other certifying body guidelines.
    • Some lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds
    • Desire to work collaboratively on a team, with openness to feedback and a desire to grow professionally
    • Ability to maintain an excellent work ethic, high level of energy, and exceptional enthusiasm each day
  • Trainings and meetings
    • Attend staff training before camp starts.
    • Attend meetings before each session starts.
    • Work with supervisors to plan skills to improve on while working at camp.
    • Check in with Assistant Director regularly.
  • Supervisory
    • Ensure that campers are always appropriately supervised in their activities and are always accounted for according to cabin lists and activity signups.
    • Communicate expectations to all staff and hold them accountable to those expectations.
    • Complete a mid summer and end of summer evaluation for all direct reports
  • Complete other tasks as assigned
Requirements

Requirements:
  • Must be at least 21 years old
  • Must have a desire to work with youth
  • CPR Certified Preferred
  • Passion to provide a positive camp experience to everyone who comes to camp
  • Good health and a physical condition suited for outdoor work and long hours
  • Be well versed in the areas of Trauma Informed Care and previous experience using social, emotional, learning focused guidance working with youth
  • Familiarity with restorative justice practices
  • Must have experience planning and leading activities
  • Must live on camp in while camp is in session
  • Experience leading peers a plus
