POSITION SUMMARY

The Food Service Lead Cook at YMCA Camp Collins is responsible for the service of healthy meals and snacks to the campers and retreat guests in our programs. The Lead Cook prepares food for meals, supervises food service staff, maintains kitchen cleanliness, and leads a positive work environment. The Lead Cook will interact with guests and is an important representative of YMCA Camp Collins. This position is seasonal.

Requirements

Essential Functions

  • Cook healthy and appealing meals in a timely manner.
  • Support Food Service Manage in creating healthy, diverse menus for a variety of guests.
  • Supervise Food Service Staff during your shift.
  • Follow prescribed menus.
  • Assist with monitoring inventory.
  • Maintain a high standard of cleanliness in all food preparation and storage areas.
  • Adhere to the YMCA principles of love, respect, honesty, responsibility and service.
  • Commit to establishing long-term relationships with staff, volunteers, participants, members and families.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Ability to safely and effectively operate kitchen appliances.
  • Must be able to work effectively in a continuously changing, fast-paced environment.
Additional Functions
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Serve as part of the YMCA Camp Collins team.
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.
  • Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards of the site and facilities and camper and staff behavior.
  • Physical mobility and endurance to perform tasks while standing/walking for long periods of time (60 minutes or more).
  • Ability to provide first aid and to assist campers and staff in an emergency.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
  • Must pass YMCA background check.
  • At least 18 years old.
  • Have or obtain an Oregon Food handler's card.
  • Experience working with children and parents, preferably with a programming background.
  • First Aid/CPR certification or the ability to acquire within 60 days.
  • Ability to read and write English.
  • Meet all food preparer's standards as dictated by the State of Oregon Care Division.
