POSITION SUMMARY -
Responsible for planning, directing and overseeing the Automation New Build Department including quoting projects, developing scope of works, allocating work, managing outsourced work, performance management, and developing the team. Provide technical expertise in automated technologies and processes, analyze and manage machine cost, functionality, implementation and evaluation. Also responsible for assisting with the creation and modification of Dee Zee's machine building standards. WORK ENVIRONMENT -
Must be willing and able to work in an environment exposed to elements that can include but are not limited to coolant, dust, mist, elevated noise, and uncontrolled temperatures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Direct and coordinate employees engaged in the design, build, and implementation of new automated equipment
Manage new and existing projects by developing and defining scope of works, budgets, cost targets, and delivery timelines
Develop program plans including Project Proposals, Gant Charts, Open Issues Logs, Budgets, Spending Plans, Build Standards, Procedures, and Lessons Learned Documents
Confer with other management or subordinates to resolve worker problems, complaints, or issues
Recommend or implement measures to motivate employees and to improve production methods, equipment performance, product quality, and efficiency
Maintains staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees; maintaining a safe, secure, and legal work environment; developing personal growth opportunities.
Work with outside vendors on creating & developing business relationships
Ability to stop the production line and/or prevent shipment of products due to nonconformance or potential nonconformance products to our customers
Participate in design reviews
Work with other departments such as Tool and Die, Process Engineering, Product Engineering, and IT to ensure successful automated projects are implemented
Oversee machine design, build, and start-up to ensure equipment is in accordance to OSHA and NFPA 79 standards
Oversee and facilitate required programming and debugging of control software, including PLC's, HMIs, Servo Drives, vision inspection systems, etc.
Develop communication documentation to help convey the key aspects of a design to a client or manufacturing partner
Conduct and manage root cause analysis and resolution engineering issues, including any design changes required to existing equipment
Ability to stop the production line and/or prevent shipment of products due to nonconformance or potential nonconformance products to our customers
Maintain and support the environmental policy with deployment, governance of the policy and processes, evaluation and taking action for process improvement
SKILLS & ABILITIES
Knowledge of safety standards and risk assessment procedures is required
Advanced knowledge of Fanuc Robotics Systems and Programming is required
Advanced PLC programming
Experience with RSLogix 5000/500 is required; experience with other PLC's is a plus
Proven ability to program in ladder logic, structured text, and Function Block Diagram is required
Advanced knowledge of Control Circuits is required
Troubleshooting skills (using a meter/scope/PC to trace a problem) is required
Knowledge with the following standards is required: NFPA 70 (NEC), NFPA 70E (Standard for Electrical Safety), NFPA 79 (Electrical Standard for Industrial Machinery), ANSI/RIA R15.06 (Robot Safety)
Proven ability to organize and manage large programs or projects is required
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with an emphasis on the ability to organize, and prioritize to meet deadlines
Experience using various types of manufacturing machinery
Self-motivated with a result driven approach
Strong team building, decision making, and people management skills
Adequate knowledge of business and management principles, budgeting, resources allocation, and human resources
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering Mechanical Engineering or Robotics technology preferred
E
xperience:
Eight years of hands-on technician experience in a manufacturing environment preferred; Experience with electrical systems preferred
Computer Skills:
Must demonstrate computer literacy; Proficient using Microsoft Office; Experience with CAD software and Logix 5000 preferred
