The specialist will identify, provide, and encourage development opportunities and ensure staff remain compliant with policies and procedures. The specialist will lead all staff in training experiences and impact their success and the team’s success while fostering a supportive and enriching continuous learning environment. Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities: 1. The clinical development specialist is responsible for Collaborative Partnerships A) Consults, advises, and coordinates with other individuals, groups, and/or departments concerning education and learning. B) Collaborates with leadership team members to create and/or revise staff training plans as determined by process, policy, or regulatory changes. C) Debriefs with department leaders to determine learning gaps, opportunities, and progress against independent practice. D) Works with leadership team members to honor the gift of organ donation by offering therapeutic interactions and interventions to staff as they support the families of potential donors. 2. Education A) Maintains current knowledge of educational and training requirements and best practices for clinical staff. B) Effectively and professionally trains Organ Recovery Coordinators according to an established department training plan. C) Utilizes adult-based learning principles, including but not limited to lectures, group discussions, and simulation for the donor management program. D) Strength in breaking apart highly technical concepts in a manner that new learners can understand. E) Develops, periodically evaluates, and delivers the curriculum used to train new clinical staff. F) Design and develop simulation-based training to provide a psychologically safe space for a standardized learning experience, continuous quality improvement, and reduced training time. G) Develops and implements evaluation systems to monitor the quality of training delivery. H) Proactively identify and recommend improvements to processes and procedures. I) Knowledge of department quality assurance standards, processes, and procedures, including identifying and correcting errors. J) Assists in developing and designing a preceptor program for qualified staff to train and mentor staff. K) Observes and assists staff “on-site” at least once per week to educate and assess mastery of job skills and core competencies. L) Mentors/coaches preceptors to address performance gaps through improvement goals under the guidance of leadership team members. 3. Orientation A) Serves as subject matter expert on donor management and extends to the procurement of organs. B) Coordinates all learning and development program functions and provides technical training and support for all aspects of the Organ Recovery Coordinator role. C) Prepares and schedules baseline training for newly hired staff in collaboration with leadership team members to include defining department-specific curriculums, learning objectives, required job competencies, and training plans to be completed. D) Design and develop program content and determine training delivery mechanisms. E) Directs department baseline training programs to facilitate or engage subject matter experts, focused on key learning objectives that increase new hire efficiencies. F) Schedules and participates in new hire check-in sessions with orientee and appropriate leadership team members, providing real-time feedback to ensure progress and to mutually manage expectations. G) Documents training progress in the learning management system accurately and timely. H) Maintains baseline training tracking and documentation records for new hires and ongoing skills development in an accurate and timely manner. I) Administers assessments to determine learning gaps and program effectiveness. 4. Competency Management A) Provides staff with continuous training and updates on department protocols, policies, and regulatory policies with respect to all aspects of Southwest Transplant Alliance processes, from receiving a referral to finishing a case. B) Collaborates with leadership team members to identify, define, and develop data-driven ongoing skills-based training, annual competency programs, and learning objectives for staff. C) Collaborates with leadership team members to ensure all affected staff demonstrate acceptable levels of competency. D) Assists in developing and implementing competency evaluation tools that reflect an employee's performance standards for successfully completing the introductory period and annual assessments. 5. Work schedules may vary due to work duties and departmental needs. 6. Performs other related duties as required. Compliance: OSHA CATEGORY DEFINITION: Category 2 - The incumbent in this position has the potential for occupational exposure. (If applicable) The incumbent will have access to confidential material and is required to use discretion with this information and comply with STA Confidentiality policy. Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements: Associate degree in nursing or biological science or related experience required. Bachelor’s degree preferred. Licensed as a registered nurse, respiratory therapist, or paramedic, or applicable experience and related training preferred. Three years as an Organ Recovery Coordinator experience required. Three years of requestor experience preferred. One year as a preceptor is required. Certified Procurement Transplant Coordinator certification (CPTC) required or obtain within 12 months in this role. Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support Provider certifications are required or obtained within 12 months in this role. A current Driver’s license is required. Qualifications and Skills: Knowledge of simulation, eLearning technologies, MS Office, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint preferred. Direct experience in a healthcare setting is strongly preferred. Excellent communication skills are required. Must communicate effectively with all personnel levels and represent the organization publicly. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team required. Ability to cope with high levels of stress and able to handle a heavy workload. Ability to travel in light and commercial aircraft or drive his/her personal auto in order to meet all job duties and responsibilities.
