Sylvania Schools is seeking caring individuals who want to make a difference in their community by transporting students safely to and from school. Become a Sylvania School Bus Driver. Being a Sylvania School Bus Driver requires compassion for students, the ability to drive safely, and a willingness to give to the profession. Contracted (with health insurance) and Substitute positions are available.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Must be 21 years or older and possess a High School Diploma or equivalent.

2. Demonstrated record of successful employment.

3. Must have a current CDL with P,S endorsements or be willing to obtain one (We will train you)

4. Must be able to pass the school bus physical/drug test.

5. Must have a clean driving record.

6. Must pass state and federally required BCI and FBI background checks.

7. Must attend State of Ohio in-service classes held by the State Instructor.

8. Must complete all training and classes as required by law and as required by Sylvania

Schools.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Operate a school bus under state laws.

2. Responsible for a clean and fueled bus at all times.

3. Maintain order and discipline on the bus at all times.

4. Display emotional maturity and stability with a positive, cheerful outlook.

5. Communicate appropriately with students at individual levels of ability.

6. Supervise students while they are on the bus, answer questions, explain directions, and give

appropriate assistance.

7. Maintain awareness of the whole bus while attending to safety concerns.

8. Report any major mechanical problems with the bus directly to the head mechanic.

9. Report any student problems to the Director of Transportation.

10. Report on time and maintain a prompt schedule on routes.

11. Responsible to enter personal absences on AESOP and to

communicate same-day absences to the Transportation Office personnel.

12. Responsible to check your district email account on a regular basis and

communicate as needed via email.

13. Experience working with students with disabilities is desirable.

14. Ability to interact well with parents, students, and district staff.

15. Show respect and maintain confidentiality of all students and their families.

16. Must be able to lift children and provide students with physical assistance to include the

operation of bus lift and wheelchairs, if needed.

17. Perform such other tasks and assume such other responsibilities from the Director of

Transportation/designee as necessary for the successful operation of the bus route.
