SUMMARY

Oversees the operation of the Metal lab and Sand lab, ensuring that all the necessary testing is being conducted to ensure that the iron produced meets associated standards. Provides technical support in the analysis of quality issues, process improvements, and various special projects.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Promotes safety awareness, accident prevention, and employee involvement with regard to a safe work environment. Ensures employees understand the safety expectations of the organization.
  • Promotes the culture, the mission and vision, and the core values of the company. This includes adherence to and promotion of the company safety beliefs, employee engagement, competencies, code of conduct, and other policies and procedures.
  • Be knowledgeable in Metal lab equipment such as: Spectrometer, Tensile testing, Carbon Sulfur analyzer, and other miscellaneous testing instruments.
  • Oversees lab testing techniques and maintenance of appropriate test documentation.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Technical writing.
  • Ensures that all technical parameters are within specified ranges or take the necessary actions to correct and maintain product quality.
  • Ensures that test procedures and equipment comply with applicable ASTM standards.
  • Ensures that the finished product conforms to customer specifications.
  • Conducts analysis of casting defects and make recommendations for process improvements.
  • Investigates quality problems related to metallurgical or sand issues and makes recommendations on corrective actions.
  • Conducts various research projects in a variety of areas including technical improvements, process improvements, variation reduction, etc.
  • Provides technical expertise to production employees and offers specific process improvement recommendations to fulfill quality expectations.
  • Assists in the management of various quality systems: ISO, BNQ, NF, etc.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelors degree (B.A) in Material Science, Metallurgy, or Metallurgical Engineering from four-year college or university required. Three or more years of related experience, with solid knowledge of chemical and structural make up of ferrous iron, preferred. Experience with Lean/Six Sigma Methodology and strong team participation, a plus.
