San Mateo, United States Zoox Full time

Zoox is on an ambitious journey to develop a full-stack autonomous robotaxi and safely deploy a transformative mobility solution for cities. Zoox's System Design and Mission Assurance (SDMA) team constructs the Safety Case and validates that our vehicles are safe enough to be deployed for autonomous driving. SDMA enables Zoox to rapidly iterate and safely expand capabilities through trustworthy, innovative, and pragmatic safety engineering. We seek Systems Engineers interested in expanding their knowledge and gaining hands-on experience in autonomous vehicle systems and system safety. As a Systems Engineer on the SDMA team, you will work closely with experienced mentors and have the opportunity to learn and contribute to the design, integration, and optimization of cutting-edge technologies. You will have the opportunity to learn new skills ranging from system safety, to functional safety, system verification and validation, and more.

Responsibilities

    • You will work with SDMA colleagues and cross-functional partner teams to understand and contribute to the definition of safety requirements
    • You will work closely with experienced engineers to troubleshoot and perform root cause analysis to identify and resolve system-level issues related to safety
    • By contributing to documentation efforts (including system specification, requirements, design documents, and verification and validation testing reports), you will ensure end-to-end traceability to produce a close-loop Safety Case
    • You will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure system requirements and desired functionality are achieved
Qualifications
    • Bachelor's or higher degree in Engineering or a related field
    • 3+ years of industry experience or relevant PhD
    • Experience in systems engineering, quantitative analysis, reliability engineering, or other system design fundamentals
    • Strong math and analytical skills, particularly with probability theory and its real-life applications
    • Ability to write clear, concise, and verifiable requirements
    • Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically and propose innovative solutions
Bonus Qualifications
    • Experience with at least one project across its full development cycle
    • Experience with requirements and test traceability tools (e.g. Polarion, Jama, DOORS, or TestRails)
    • Familiarity with safety standards and regulations related to autonomous vehicles (e.g. ISO 26262, SOTIF)
