Essential Duties and Responsibilities

+ To provide machining expertise in support of manufacturing operations.

+ To set up and operate manual machinery for the fabrication of parts

+ Develop cutting process for mills based on engineering drawings and models.

+ Configure tools and ensure efficient production.

+ Analyze drawings, blueprints, and design data in order to calculate correct part dimension for machines, tool selection, machine speeds, and feed rates.

+ Monitor output and proper operation of mechanical equipment. Make mechanical adjustments to ensure parts are meeting quantity and quality requirements.

+ Use precision measuring instruments including micrometers and calipers, and fixtures and gauges to check work.

+ Read Instrumentation and gauges to accurately measure dimensions on parts that are being machined within a .001 tolerance.

+ Communicate recommendations to modify processes to improve productivity and quality.

+ Carry out other duties reasonable within capability as required by the Machine Shop Manager.

+ Maintain a neat, clean and organized work area.

+ Suggest changes for improved operations and cost savings

+ Follow all safety policies, precautions, recommendations and procedures as may be applicable.

Qualifications: Education, Experience, and Skills

+ High School or GED Diploma required. Associates Degree or Certification in related field preferred.

+ Minimum of 7+ years of experience with manual milling and/or lathe machine.

+ Experience setting up and troubleshooting machines.

+ Able to demonstrate good manufacturing practices and be able to select tooling and machining resources for manufacture of parts.

+ Strong mathematical skills.

+ Blueprint with GD&T reading capabilities.

Work Environment

The work environment characteristics described here are typical of those an employee might encounter while performing the essential functions of this job.

+ The shop contains mobile equipment, machinery, and high voltages .

+ The shop noise level is variable and may require hearing protection in some areas.

+ The shop is heated when required but many areas are not air conditioned.

+ Some shop processes use high voltage arcs or concentrated magnetic fields.

HSE

+ Work in compliance with divisional health, safety and environmental procedures

+ Refrain from removing or altering safety devices or guarding unless hazardous energies are controlled through lockout-tagout methods

+ Report any unsafe conditions or unsafe acts

+ Report defect in any equipment or protective device

+ Ensure that the required protective equipment is used for the assigned tasks

+ Attend all required health, safety and environmental training

+ Report any accidents/incidents to supervisor

+ Assist in investigating accidents/incidents

+ Refrain from engaging in any prank, contest, feat of strength, unnecessary running or rough and boisterous conduct
