Summary

SUMMARY: Under direction of higher level management staff, mainframe, leads and provides professional level support to ACMC'S computer users including the analysis, development, and maintenance of assigned hardware and software systems; provides lead supervision over professional data processing staff; and to do related work as required.

DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: NOTE: The following are the duties performed by employees in this classification. However, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Not all duties listed are necessarily performed by each individual in the classification.

1. Evaluates administrative and management problems and recommends data processing solutions; coordinates the implementation of systems with management staff, data processing personnel, programming staff, and outside vendors.

2. Leads, coordinates and participates in providing technical assistance to mini and microcomputer users regarding hardware and software problems and the development of new systems; analyzes system output to determine problems and recommend corrective action.

3. Confers with department users to determine data processing system needs; analyzes and recommends software and hardware purchases; conducts cost/benefit analyses.

4. Develops custom applications for minicomputers and microcomputer bases systems including automated databases, spreadsheets, macros, and other programs; analyzes user application requests and assists in system design.

5. Researches, analyzes, and evaluates new hardware and software products for use by County departments; stays abreast of new trends and innovations relating to the use of microcomputers.

6. Leads and participates in the development of user instruction manuals, system procedures, and other system documentation.

7. Coordinates the training of Department/Agency users in the use of data processing systems.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Possession of the Knowledge and Abilities listed below is proof of sufficient education and experience for this class.

Minimum Experience: The knowledge and abilities would typically be obtained by having gained two years of experience in developing mini and/or micro computer based data processing systems, as well as by having the equivalent of one year of formal class work in computer science or data processing systems.

A key requirement of this role is to stay current with on-going technology, tools and processes in the industry to ensure support of AHS’s business and clinical needs.  As such, this role is expected to align with the AHS IS Department Training Program Guidelines and must meet the training requirements for this role.  Training requirements for this role are documented in the AHS IS Training Matrix and will be updated as needed depending on advancements in technology, tools and processes as well as AHS’s evolving business & clinical needs.
