Utility Worker The Utility Worker performs basic mechanical, electrical, plumbing, carpentry and other general work in connection with the maintenance and repair of building equipment and systems. Nature of work involves physical effort and dexterity in the use of appropriate tools. The utility worker is assigned to take direction and assist tradesperson, for the duration of an assignment. May be assigned to perform tasks requiring less expertise independently. Assists in the installation and maintenance of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, carpentry and other building equipment and systems. Assists in the installation and maintenance of building utility systems. Maintain parts and equipment inventory. Repair of building interiors such as doors, walls, and furnishings. Performs tasks requiring moderate expertise independently involving inspection, operation, maintenance, and repair of equipment and systems. Shall perform basic troubleshooting and may provide vendor/contractor oversight. Reads and interprets mechanical, architectural, and plumbing blueprints and basic electrical schematics. Responds to all service calls. Responsible for keeping records, timecards, work requests, material slips, logbook entries, charts, and record sheets accurate, legible and turned in to supervisor in a timely manner. Handles hazardous waste/materials including replacing batteries in faucets and replacing burned out fluorescent lamps. High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Four (4) years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience. Ability to adapt to and deal with change and ambiguity. Ability to operate standard tools, instruments and equipment used on the job. Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, work independently and meet deadlines. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and sketches. Ability to solve problems and identify solutions. Ability to speak and write English effectively at a level appropriate for the job. Ability to work in a fast-paced work environment. Ability to work well with individuals at all levels of the organization. Knowledge of computer systems and software used in functional area. Knowledge of local, state and federal regulatory requirements related to areas of functional responsibility. Knowledge of methods, tools, and equipment used in maintenance and repair. CADL - California Drivers License - Valid And In State. Category III - Tasks that involve NO exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues, and Category I tasks that are not a condition of employment.
