TITLE: Crew Supervisor

LOCATION: Winston Salem

REPORTS TO: Operations Lead

The Crew Supervisor will provide leadership to the operating crew and ensure all safety, environmental, quality, and production targets are met during the shift. This position will also serve as key on-site contact for site emergencies during off-shift, weekend, and holiday plant operations. Other responsibilities include but are not limited to supporting growth initiatives and collaborating and communicating across functions.

Core Responsibilities:
  • Lead efficient and effective plant operation. This involves maintaining oversight of ongoing operations; recognizing undesired operating conditions or potentially undesirable operating trends; and following up with the appropriate personnel to facilitate a timely and accurate resolution
  • Provide effective leadership by actively utilizing tools such as standard work to drive KPI's, performance of operations personnel and overall process performance
  • Communicate with the shift coordinator to help address any needs and ensure critical functions are covered around the plant.
  • Responsible for management and resource allocation regarding planned and emergency maintenance activities
  • Ensure that the operational directions from management, leads, and shift coordinators are being implemented
  • Complete shift rounds to touch base with all colleagues on shift, a minimum of twice a shift
  • Use Leader Standard Work daily
  • Provide accurate documentation in shift summaries regarding key events that occurred during shift.
  • Utilize current company reporting tool to make incident reports and start investigations when required
  • Conduct a daily Tier 1 and participate in Tier 2 meeting
  • Responsible for approving time for crew in Kronos
  • Ensure associate coverage is managed for call-ins and vacation request
  • Being aware of and support the facilitation of any project work during shift (supporting engineering work)
  • Communicate, and execute the instructions of the area leads
  • Communicate the key process issues affecting safety, quality, and production during shift at the turnover meeting
  • Facilitate any planned maintenance items as well as prioritize any necessary maintenance break-ins
Safety & Regulatory
  • Understand safety requirements and ensure that your crew and others on site are conforming to the requirements
  • Complete writing of permits and perform Lockout Tagout procedures for hazardous jobs (hot work in combustible dust, line break, etc...) as required
  • Have sufficient knowledge to recognize the facility alarm and emergency response systems, (fire alarms, severe weather alarms, fire suppression systems, etc...) and take appropriate corrective actions.
  • Ensure all daily regulatory inspections are completed as required
  • Be responsible for ensuring waste treatment loading is minimized and waste levels are within the guidelines of the sanitary district
  • Ensure communication to the sanitary district treatment plants is occurring when we need to notify them of abnormal waste levels
Customer Experience
  • Ensure site quality and GMP policies are followed
  • Contact customer service, logistics and order coordination as needed to resolve loading problems
  • During the off shifts, ensure that quality testing is completed
  • Have sufficient knowledge of product safety and product code systems to take appropriate action as required
Innovation
  • Work with maintenance, to facilitate timely repairs. This can include locating parts in SAP, helping to stage maintenance jobs etc...
  • Ensure accurate troubleshooting steps are conducted
  • As required, give assistance to field operators in duties
  • Use root cause analysis tools to improve the process
  • Be a member of plant committees and teams
Continuous Improvement
  • Look for sources of waste and make corrections
  • Look for opportunities to improve processes and share best practices with other shift coordinators and leads
  • Help progress and develop the Ingredion Performance system using lean manufacturing techniques. Be an active advocate and sponsor for changes that result from the Ingredion Performance System.
Develop and Coach Employees
  • Work with the shift coordinator to develop skill progression plans for each crew member to meet individual advancement requirements and ensure adequate cross training to develop crew strengths
  • Hold yearly performance evaluations for crew members
  • Coach crew members on job duties and administer corrective actions when necessary,
  • Lead regular crew meetings such toolbox talks and information sessions
Qualified candidates will have:
  • Knowledge of corn wet milling manufacturing operations, processes and customer base and refinery operations strongly desired
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field preferred and 1-4 years of experience in manufacturing environment desired or, 5+ years in corn wet milling operations
  • Ability to lead a team of direct reports
  • Knowledge/experience in using Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint and/or other software tools.
  • Ability to present shift reports, lead meetings, and review/write SOP's.
  • Must be willing to work a rotating shift and work overtime
