Nurse Manager, Wound Care

Overview:
The Wound Care Services Manager is responsible for the delivery of wound-related patient care that promotes the safety and well-being of all patients. Plans, directs, coordinates, and evaluates the overall clinical practice including fiscal, material, and human resource management. Participates in the development of policies and procedures for the department. The Manager is actively involved in department activities, transdisciplinary team activities, and activities to ensure individualized, patient-centered health care for all patient populations admitted to OBH Brookdale University Hospital.
Responsibilities:- Works with the wound care physicians to provide a comprehensive treatment program for patients, addresses patient issues, and works through all patient/employee-related matters.
- Educates referring providers to purpose, function, and realistic expectations of the Clinic. Educates nursing personnel on wound care techniques and skills.
- Coordinates and revises present wound and/or HBO services by planning, developing, and implementing new service programming compatible hospital goals.
- Develops appropriate protocols and objectives for programs exhibiting knowledge of the programs by communicating needed information and/or referring requests for information to appropriate sources.
- Provides leadership in the development of performance standards for employees. Evaluates and counsels employees on their performance. Plans and develops educational in-services for the department.
- The knowledge and skills necessary to perform the position requirements are demonstrated through the successful completion of competencies established for the position, to include population served, and other special needs of patients or customers served by the department.
- Adheres to OBH Brookdale University policies, procedures, all safety plans, and all standards imposed by regulatory organizations.
- Delivers direct patient care appropriate to the patients served. The ages of the patients served are adult (18-65 years of age) and geriatric (65 and older) populations.
- Regular attendance and timeliness are required.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Graduate of accredited Nursing school BSN.
- Masters Degree in Nursing preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum two (2) years experience in working in wound care and HBO including previous supervisory experience.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Critical thinking, math, and computer skills; Works as a team player
- Monitors and facilitates the meeting of requirements of NYSDOH, JCAHO and other regulators
- Knowledge of quality improvement philosophy models, processes and tools and their use in health care integrated settings. Maintains currency with state of the art and regulatory trends
- Knowledge of methods for CQI, and Root Cause Analysis
- Monitors and facilitates the meeting of requirements of NYSDOH, JCAHO and other regulators
- Demonstrates respect and professionalism in all interactions
- Demonstrates competence in leadership, budgetary and administrative skills
- Demonstrates a commitment to continuing professional growth and development
- Excellent oral and communication skills
- Experience and demonstrated competency in applicable clinical specialty
- Decision making and problem solving
- Able to read, write, see and hear English
- Ability to fully utilize BHMC's electronic record systems, equipment and healthcare and billing systems relevant to this position
Licenses, Certifications:
- Licensed and currently registered as a Professional Nurse in New York State required.
- Basic Life Support required.
- ACLS required.
- PALS (required for Pediatric, PICU, and NICU) preferred for all other areas.
- NRP (required for L&D, MBU, and NICU) preferred for all other areas.
- Board certification as a CWS or WOCN.
Physical Requirements:
- Physically demanding, high-stress environment requiring prolonged periods of standing, reaching, walking throughout the working day
- Position will be required to stoops, bends, lifts, carry items weighing up to 35 pounds for routine performance of essential functions
- An individual in this position may be exposed to: Adverse indoor environmental conditions, Blood borne pathogens, Blood and body fluids, Physical hazards (e.g., needle pricks, etc.), communicable diseases, chemical hazards, radiation, and repetitive motions
- Full range of body motion, able to lift up to 100 pounds, if necessary, to assist lifting and moving patients
- Manual and finger dexterity, as well as hand and eye coordination.
- Corrected vision and hearing to within normal range
- Frequently sitting at desk working on computer
- Ability to flex working hours
- On call
