The Senior Enterprise Data Governance Steward provides advanced support for the Banks Enterprise Data Governance Program’s processes, policies and procedures pertaining to NYCB data. Works closely with the Enterprise Data Governance Manager Sr on the implementation of an enterprise-wide data governance framework, including development and implementation of standards, policies and tools, data error management and escalation. The Senior Enterprise Data Governance Steward partners with counterpart Data Stewards within the Business Process Owner’s (BPOs) line of business, Internal Audit and Enterprise Risk Management (ERM), to ensure consistent adoption, approach and adherence to the treatment of data across the Bank.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Takes the initiative and proactively provides recommendations to the Enterprise Data Governance Manger Sr for enhancements to the Enterprise Data Governance Program, helps solve problems and provides recommendations for departmental efficiency.
  • Develops strong working relationships with all Data Owners/Designates and BPOs to further promote the need for data quality and adherence to/compliance with the Data Governance Policy thus securing Program buy in.
  • Provides input and recommends enhancements to the enterprise Data Governance Program, Policy and related procedures.
  • Ensures all documentation and procedures within data governance are current and in compliance with regulatory and audit requirements.
  • Identifies and maintains key data elements, including Data Ownership, Data Lineage and the Data Glossary in Axon and EDC. 
  • Assists the Enterprise Data Governance Manager Sr with establishing the strategic direction, use and adoption of the Informatica tools - provides recommendations on how best to leverage various features of the tools to further enhance/support the Enterprise Data Governance Program.
  • Leads the Error Management Processes by establishing and maintaining related databases and works closely with designated Data Owners/Designees and key BPOs to review data errors, track remediation and ensure root cause has been addressed.
  • Ensures that the appropriate data working group meeting materials are prepared and distributed within the specified time frames – including agendas, materials, minutes and any needed follow-up.
  • Facilitates data working group and one-off key meeting(s).
  • Develops and manages all department databases, oversees proper usages by team members and  performs ongoing validations to ensure the integrity of each database. 
  • Manages the relationship with the External BSA Quality Control team to ensure timely review and dissemination of identified data errors in accordance with the establish SLA.
  • Manages the CDO SharePoint site.
  • Provides leadership and insight into the Data Quality Metrics Program and monthly report narrative.
  • Provides overall mentoring/guidance for less experienced teammates. 
  • Working with the Data Governance Steward and Metrics Specialist, validates/reviews proposed IDQ data quality rules and results.
  • Identifies and develops requirements/testing of new data elements added to the Enterprise  Data Warehouse in support of the Enterprise Data Governance goal of having a single source of the truth. 
  • Conducts analysis and research as needed in support of data quality.
  • Identifies/investigates possible data risks through the course of working with BPOs and the creation/review of data errors and makes recommendations on which errors may need to be entered into Archer.
  • Primary liaison with the Enterprise Data Quality Assurance Team – validating the accuracy of their findings in line with the proper usage of the data, continuous mentoring/education on business rules and functions, securing answers to outstanding questions and facilitating required meetings.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Finance, Accounting, IT or related field.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a data governance or data mastering capacity.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience working with financial data systems and analysis.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of professional experience within the banking industry.
  • Data Governance and Steward Professional Certification preferred.
  • AXON, IDQ, EDC Certification preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Experience working with industry data governance tools, such as Axon, EDC and IDQ.
  • Advanced knowledge of banking industry and banking systems, Fiserv Product Suite.
  • Solid understanding of data and database architecture.
  • Strong problem solving abilities. 
  • Advanced knowledge of corporate governance programs and risk practices.
  • Excellent project management and coordination skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent facilitation, conflict resolution, presentation, analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to grasp new concepts and ideas quickly.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple work assignments.
  • Ability to interact with senior management.
