POSITION PURPOSE/SUMMARY

The IT Security Specialist helps to maintain a learning environment that empowers and equips students to excel, by being responsible for desktop, mobile, and network security, troubleshooting network access and implementing network security policies and procedures at our organization. The IT Security Specialist works independently within the established procedures to ensure network security access and protect against unauthorized access, modifications, or destruction of critical data. Responsibilities include performing risk assessments, audits, staff training sessions, monitoring network activity, and responding to staff notifications of potential phishing.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

An Associate's degree in computer science, cybersecurity, or related field or equivalent. Minimum 3 years of experience in network security in a large organizational environment and appropriate certification in information technology cybersecurity, or be willing to complete a company-sponsored 2-year cybersecurity training program that includes industry-standard certifications.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  1. Installing, administering, and troubleshooting network security solutions.
  2. Updating software with the latest security patches and ensuring the proper defenses are present for each network resource.
  3. Performing vulnerability and penetration tests, identifying and defending against threats, and developing disaster recovery plans.
  4. Configuring security systems, analyzing security requirements, and recommending improvements.
  5. Defining a "baseline" and monitoring network traffic for suspicious behavior.
  6. Creating network policies and authorization roles and defending against unauthorized access, modifications, and destruction.
  7. Consulting with staff and administrators about best security practices and providing technical advice.
  8. Configuring and supporting security tools, such as firewalls and anti-virus software.
  9. Training staff to understand and use security protocols.
  10. Develop and maintain an Incident Response Plan for data security.
  11. Work closely with the Executive Director of Technology Services to plan and budget future hardware and software deployments and upgrades.
  12. Assist with the development and implementation of technology education for all staff.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES
  1. Effectively communicate, in both verbal and written form, with administrators, staff, and the community as needed.
  2. Protect the organization's value by keeping information confidential.
  3. Assist in the management of District Technology security goals, and participate as a member of the District IT Team.
  4. Accomplish organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
  5. Travel between district buildings as necessary. The employee must have a valid driver's license.


MENTAL DEMANDS

Ability to maintain highly confidential information; communicate clearly both orally and in writing, and/or ability to reason and make appropriate decisions.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this position an employee is regularly required to sit, talk and hear. Close vision ability to look at a computer screen for long periods of time is required.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Employment will be on an at-will basis for 12 months with two weeks vacation, beginning July 1, or from the time of employment for the duration of the school year with prorated vacation and/or personal leave. The Security Administrator will be provided a work calendar showing the specific daily work schedule of the employee. The work calendar may be modified by the Board of Education at any time, as needs dictate.

Eight hours will constitute a workday. The Assistant Superintendent of Personnel will establish a definite daily schedule.

The yearly salary will be disbursed in twenty-four (24) equal payments.

EVALUATION

End of the year performance evaluations will occur annually in accordance with the provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of support staff personnel.
