Position Purpose

This position is responsible for maintaining all greenhouse complexes located on UCM ground, including Broad St, Mitchell St and by WC Morris, maintaining all high tunnels on UCM ground, maintaining the teaching garden, maintaining the apiary, and maintaining the butterfly garden.

This position will also oversee inventory of plants, plan species to be planted in conjunction with holidays, climate, time of year, academic need, and facilities(grounds department) need, be knowledgeable about the stages of plant life, diseases, and how to treat them, and make recommendations on fertilizer and potting mediums.

The incumbent will effectively manage greenhouse equipment and computer controls. explore ways to improve processes for more efficient growth and harvest yields, maintain breeding records, forecast demands for finished products, and ensure compliance with university, state, and federal agencies.

This position will supervise 6-10 greenhouse student employees.

Maintain positive relationships with academic partners, community growers, commercial businesses, and other campus partners.

Assist the farm manager with large tasks to include mowing, weed eating, spraying, planting field crops, and the harvest of hay and field crops.

Education & Formal Training

Bachelor's degree (Specify field(s) of study below)

Other Education & Formal Training

Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Plant Science, Horticulture, Biology or related field.

Computer Skills

Word-Processing, Spreadsheet, Presentation

Experience

Three (3) years of management experience in the horticulture industry required.

Experience working in a university or college environment preferred.

Criminal History check, Driver's license

CDL within 6 months of hire.

Missouri Certified Pesticide Application license required within 6 months of hire.

NRA RSO (Range Safety Officer) certification within 6 months of hire.
