**General Description:**
The Senior Buyer is salary Grade 70 position reporting to the Purchasing Manager. The Senior Buyer is responsible for the identification, selection and development of the companys key suppliers. In addition, the Senior Buyer will purchase goods and services in the most economical manner in such a way as to support production delivery and quality requirements. This position requires the ability to be aware of and understand business trends and situations from both a strategic and tactical perspective in order to assure supply chain capability and stability for assigned commodities. Negotiation skills, problem solving ability, an analytical approach and decision-making capability are necessary.
**Primary Responsibilities:**
* Identification and management of key business suppliers.
* Development of Total Cost of Ownership materials approach
* Manage and develop MRP system
**Education and Experience Requirements:**
* Bachelor degree in Business Administration or related field, or Associate degree in Business Administration or related field plus five years of Purchasing experience, or High School diploma plus ten years of purchasing experience. APICS certification preferred.
* Minimum two year experience in the following areas:
* Purchasing functions for a manufacturing company to include senior buying experience
* Supply chain methods and practices
* Negotiations for materials and services
* Use of manufacturing software
* Proficient in Microsoft Word & Excel
**Special Tasks and Focus Areas:**
* Identification and management of key business suppliers.
* Negotiation and development of agreements
* Development of supplier relationships; qualifications; evaluations; audits; performance metrics; forecasts to insure stability, capability and problem resolution
* Management of tooling and machining supply base to include selection, quoting, and procurement
* Development and conduct of key supplier business reviews
* Development of cross functional affiliation with internal Engineering, Quality and Program Management to ensure supplier compliance and improve collaboration
* Development of Total Cost of Ownership materials approach
* Drive improvement in materials cost; transportation; min order quantities; lead time reduction; obsolescence; expiration; quality; inventory audits
* Establishment of strategic and tactical relationships with suppliers to reduce cost of capital

* Manage and develop MRP system
* Maintain key operating data

* Develop and prepare analyses; reports; presentations
* Provide tactical support for procurement of goods
* Ensure delivery of goods and services when needed
* Provide goods and services that meet specifications and or requirements
* Obtain bids as necessary
* Maintain strong relationship with supply base
* Process purchase orders and attendant information to suppliers
* Negotiate supplier delivery commitments; negotiate and resolve supplier quality issues and receiving discrepancies and supplier returned materials
* Utilize best transportation methods to minimize costs
* Establish purchase order methods consistent with excellent production materials support and high inventory turns policy as defined by supervisor
* Work closely with schedules and forecasts to support production builds
* Provide timely and accurate resolution of purchase order and invoice discrepancies
* Provide information to sales and program management in support of customer delivery plans and quote needs
* Manage MRP
* Execute and manage purchase orders
* Maintain accurate supplier information
* Maintain current purchase order status and reports
* Maintain minimum buys and maintain reorder points and other key system data to insure accurate order processing
* Interact with Information Systems to resolve systems problems and make improvements
* Provide timely and accurate information to production management and provide problem resolution to purchasing issues
* Utilize buying judgment in balancing pricing and requirements to achieve optimum purchasing
