Summary: The Environmental Health and Safety Coordinator will be responsible for ensuring that all safety and environmental standards are maintained and in compliance with OSHA and EPA regulations as well as Magna Body & Chassis Iowa and Magna policies. Job Responsibilities: (This job description in no way implies that these are the only duties to be performed in this position. Associates will be required to follow any other job related instructions or to perform other job duties requested by their manager) Ensure policies and procedures are consistently applied based on the principles of the Magna Employee's Charter, the Corporate and Divisional Health, Safety and Environmental Policy, as well as compliance with Federal, State and Local regulations, including OSHA, EPA and IDNR. Ensure a safe work environment by coordinating all safety activities to reduce workplace accidents and protect associates. Plan and coordinate internal and external safety training for all associates. Coordinate and attend all meetings and activities of the Safety and Ergonomics Committees and set direction for them to be successful. Provide counsel and support to associates and management on health, safety and environmental matters. Establish written safety standards and annually update and review these policies and procedures including annual leadership reviews. Evaluate safety and ergonomic issues in workstation design and layout and in the development stage of processes and equipment. Provide and maintain statistics to assist in continuous improvement in the area of workplace safety and loss control. Review all accident/incident investigation reports and provide leadership in developing and implementing corrective actions. Analyze loss control statistics using root cause analysis and make recommendations for continuous improvement. Coordinate the selection of personal protective equipment (PPE) and appropriate fit testing of such items while working with purchasing to obtain the best price and develop cost reduction strategies. Conduct monthly safety and environmental audits as required and report results to appropriate personnel. Ensure that the Health and Safety and Environmental portions of the action plan are completed in a timely fashion. Maintain a high profile with associates on the plant floor and be a strong advocate to ensure that associate safety and environmental concerns and issues are resolved in a timely manner. Encourage safety and housekeeping practices and lead by example. Promote and practice "safety first" by immediately addressing any hazards, defective equipment or unsafe conditions within the department. Work with worker's compensation carrier and occupational health providers for appropriate, timely closure of work comp claims. Monitor and coordinate drug testing policy and procedures. Follow and support Magna Body & Chassis Iowa and Magna's operating principles. Supervisory Responsibilities: None Education and/or Experience: Post secondary education in safety engineering or equivalent experience in a manufacturing environment. Three to five years experience in health, safety and environmental field, in a manufacturing environment. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills. Must be a team player and promote a team approach to problem solving. Highly self-motivated and flexible to changing priorities. Must be capable of working under pressure and with short completion times on projects, and of working flexible hours in order to meet both internal and external customer requirements. Intermediate computer skills required to process reports, charts, training and documents. Able to maintain confidentiality and use discretion and tact. Must exhibit high integrity and honesty. Ability to effectively and appropriately present information and respond to questions from various groups.
