Seattle, United States Oregon Health & Science University Full time

As a UW employee, you have a unique opportunity to change lives on our campuses, in our state and around the world. UW employees offer their boundless energy, creative problem-solving skills and dedication to build stronger minds and a healthier world.

UW faculty and staff also enjoy outstanding benefits, professional growth opportunities and unique resources in an environment noted for diversity, intellectual excitement, artistic pursuits and natural beauty.

Housed in the UW School of Public Health, the Department of Health Systems and Population Health (HSPop) is a dynamic academic and research department with the mission of working with partners in public health and health care to prepare leaders, design solutions, and conduct innovative research that is translated into practice and policy. The Department is steadfast in its efforts to improve and promote the health of all populations, and staff contribute daily and directly to the work of faculty, students, researchers and other staff, providing support and expertise to the Department’s common cause.

The Department of HSPop values and honors excellence in teaching, mentoring, research, practice, and service to catalyze innovative solutions that overcome complex public health challenges. We are dedicated to hiring staff who integrate the principles of equity, diversity, inclusion, and anti-racism within their roles and responsibilities.

We value and honor diverse experiences and perspectives, strive to create welcoming and respectful learning environments, and promote access, opportunity, and equity for all. The individual in this position is expected to be a steward of the program’s and department’s mission and core values, including the pursuit of equity, diversity, and inclusion.

The Northwest Center for Public Health Practice (NWCPHP) in the Department of HSPop is nationally recognized as an innovative leader in public health workforce development and training, and this position is critical to the continuity of business practices related to these activities. In assisting with evaluation and quality improvement processes, this position will have a direct impact on the success and reputation of NWCPHP’s workforce development programs, as well as the continuing educational outreach arm of the School of Public Health at the University of Washington.

NWCPHP has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Training Coordinator (Continuing Education Coordinator (E S 8)). The Training Coordinator will support the Training Team in managing training and learning activities aligned with NWCPHP’s mission of promoting excellence in public health by linking academia and the practice community. This position will co-create and project manage a variety of training activities for local, state, and tribal public health professionals throughout the Pacific Northwest and nationally.

These activities are supported by the PHIG Infrastructure Hub grant, direct contracts with partners, and the Public Health Training Center grant.

The Training Coordinator will work collaboratively with other members of NWCPHP’s e-learning, outreach, and evaluation teams in responding to requests for training and technical assistance both from within the University and from partner organizations around the region. This work includes assessing training needs; working with partners, subject matter experts, instructional designers, and graphic designers to develop learning materials that address skill gaps; and supporting evaluation activities to improve learner satisfaction and agency programs. This position requires a high level of initiative, independent thinking, organization, documentation, and the ability to utilize project management techniques to manage project activities from beginning to end. The Training Coordinator reports to the Training and Outreach Manager.

As part of the UW School of Public Health, NWCPHP fosters training, research, and evaluation in collaboration with state, local, and tribal public health and prevention system partners in the Pacific Northwest and beyond. We are committed to being an anti-racism organization. To accomplish this, we are engaging in a range of activities to rethink our organizational culture and become a more diverse, inclusive, and anti-racist center. We recognize that we have a lot of room to grow in this area and are approaching this work with humility and a commitment to being a ‘learning organization’. All staff are encouraged and supported to participate in this work. Key to this position is being able to articulate an understanding of racial equity and structural racism and how they apply to public health training and workforce development. In addition, the ideal candidate should demonstrate empathy for multiple groups and identities and employ self-awareness and compassion in interpersonal interactions with faculty, staff, scholars, students, and other external partners.

It is necessary for the Training Coordinator to have excellent project management, interpersonal, and communications skills, be nimble and responsive, and navigate internal and external relationships with a high degree of professionalism to be effective in the role. Other key components of this position include strong meeting facilitation skills, goal setting, attention to details, keeping others accountable, and the ability to identify barriers and propose solutions so deadlines are met and projects stay on track. It is necessary to work independently and collaboratively on multiple projects with overlapping timelines and ensure compliance with grant requirements and reporting timelines.

This position must be able to interact and communicate effectively in both in-person and virtual environments. This position is eligible for a hybrid telework arrangement, which includes an ongoing, regular remote work arrangement in addition to reporting one day per week onsite to the Seattle campus. The University’s Seattle campus will remain the official work location. All telework, remote, and hybrid working arrangements will be reviewed by the Center and subject to University policies.
