Overview

VTG is looking for a Mechanical Engineer 3 located in Virginia Beach, VA. Design and develop full scale surrogate replicas of various military vehicles. Models are developed from open source information. Models are free standing with trailer axel system to allow for mobility. Models can include on-board hydraulic systems such as scissor lifts and cylinders are used for raising and lowering section of bodies and radars. Electric motors are used to rotate radars. Creativity and ingenuity are a must asset in developing each model. Real world experience in the engineering field is also a must.

What will you do?

  • Design full scaled models to include internal mechanical systems as well as exterior details that represent a real model.
  • Develop working drawings for fabrication, assembly, and operation for each model.
  • Develop operations manual for each model.
  • Manufacture mechanical devices, including tools, hydraulic pumps, electrical generators, and machines.
  • Develop fabrication drawings.
  • Program layouts for plasma and punch machines.
  • Strong knowledge of CAD/CAM software and drafting procedures utilizing AutoCAD and /or SolidWorks.
Do you have what it takes?
  • Working knowledge of metal fabrication: press brake bending, shearing/cutting, welding, plate bending, plate rolling, plate cutting processes, and general fabrication techniques.
  • Formal education in an engineering discipline - Mechanical Engineering preferred.
  • Experience in managing or supporting steel fabrication projects.
  • Good mechanical aptitude, spatial reasoning, and problem solving.
  • Working knowledge of multi trailer axel systems.
  • Working knowledge Hydraulics Cylinders and pumps.
  • Working knowledge of 120v and 12v electrical systems.
  • Experience communicating with customers, estimating jobs, writing orders/work instructions, purchasing materials, etc.
