As our Head of Engineering, you will play a crucial role in shaping our Engineering organization's processes and team. You will have responsibility for all aspects of the day-to-day Engineering functions, including project management, technical leadership and team mentorship to ensure the successful delivery of our product roadmap. This role will report to the CEO. We are looking for someone who has a combination of technical chops and management skills: you'll be expected to be hands-on across our Engineering functions while managing the team, building scalable processes to support our growth and communicating with leadership and other stakeholders. Expect to have a small team of approximately 8 direct reports and expand it as we continue to grow.

Responsibilities:

Team Leadership and Management
  • Hire, lead and coach a team of software engineers fostering a culture of quality, delivery, and collaboration
  • Conduct performance reviews, provide career development guidance, and manage team dynamics to ensure a high-performing and motivated team
  • Encourage innovation and foster an environment of continuous improvement. Establish a sense of urgency and direction, set expectations with team and individuals.
Technical Leadership
  • Oversee the technical design and architecture of our solutions, ensuring scalability, security, and compliance with industry standards
  • Hands on work with team members to design and ship high-performing features and enhancements
  • Oversee the development of automated testing frameworks and ensure adherence to quality assurance processes
  • Manage release cycles, including beta testing and deployment of updates and new features
  • Lead the push towards an event-based architecture by architecting cutting-edge tools and technologies while maintaining the existing stack
Project Management
  • Implement agile methodologies and best practices to manage the software development lifecycle efficiently
  • Monitor project progress, address any bottlenecks or technical challenges, and ensure on-time delivery
Stakeholder Communication
  • Work closely with the CEO and Product Manager on communicating tasks, challenges, and workflows across a distributed team
  • Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical leaders, including providing updates on project status, technical challenges, and milestones

Requirements
  • Experience developing and maintaining large-scale SaaS products
  • Advanced skills in PHP with 3+ years of experience with Laravel
  • Advanced skills in JS with 3+ years experience with React, Vue or Angular
  • 4+ years of experience building and managing high performing software teams
  • 7+ years of industry experience as an individual contributor in full-stack web development
  • 5+ years of experience working in Agile software engineering methods and tools that allow rapid iterations
  • A track record of delivering large projects on time, in scope, and within quality goals in an Agile environment
  • Experience leading remote engineering teams
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
