The Metro Transit Police Department (MTPD) is one of the fastest growing law enforcement agencies in the state due the expansion of light rail and Rapid Transit Bus systems. How your work would contribute to our organization and the Twin Cities region:

As a Police Records Supervisor, you will supervise the police support units of Records and Evidence and be responsible for leading and planning, staff supervision, compliance with federal and state laws and department policies and procedures. You will also oversee the lifecycle management of digital and physical records and evidence, and work on records and evidence related projects, technology support, and audits.

What you would do in this job
  • Plan, organize, lead and delegate work activities, establish priorities, monitor progress, and evaluate staff performance for Records, Evidence and Payroll to support the needs of the Metro Transit Police Department.
  • Ensure technology within the assigned units is utilized efficiently and effectively and meets the needs of the MTPD.
  • Responsible for the completion of case and document processing ensuring data integrity, compliance with BCA requirements and Minnesota Government Data Practices Act, and customer service.
  • Responsible for the integrity of evidence and property, chain of custody, disposal and return, as well as departmental training.
  • Responsible for processing timecards and other payroll related activities with MTPD.
  • Ensure the security, confidentiality, availability, accuracy, risk and life-cycle management of all physical and digital property, records, information, and data.
  • Ensure the physical and networks security of the MTPD follows BCA/FBI requirements.
What education and experience are required for this job (minimum qualifications)

Any of the following combinations of experience and completed education (Business Administration, Information Technology, Project Management, Law Enforcement or related field):

  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 4 years of related work experience, AND 1 year of supervisory/management/lead experience.
  • Associate's degree with a minimum of 6 years of related work experience, AND 1 year of supervisory/management/lead experience.
  • High school diploma with a minimum of 8 years of related work experience, AND 1 year of supervisory/management/lead experience.
What additional skills and experience would be helpful in this job (desired qualifications):
  • 3+ years of supervisory experience in law enforcement records and evidence.
  • Project management experience.
  • Experience with evaluation and updating business processes and workflows.
  • Knowledge and understanding of BCA/FBI security requirements.
  • Knowledge and understanding of NIBRS and data practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote and support an equitable, positive, and respectful work environment that values cultural diversity among all employees.
What knowledge, skills, and abilities you should have within the first six months on the job:
  • Knowledge of law enforcement technology.
  • Knowledge of the criminal justice system.
  • Knowledge of project management.
  • Knowledge of personnel management and leadership principles.
  • Knowledge of CJIS compliance and data practices laws.
  • Knowledge of handling, receiving, storing, and disposal of police property/evidence, inventory control, recordkeeping, and materials management as well as safety and security methods and practices involved in the handling and storage of firearms, weapons, narcotics, drugs, money, vehicles, and dangerous devices.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local criminal and civil laws, codes, and regulations for Records and Evidence.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office 365 tools (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, etc).
  • Skilled in oral and written communications.
  • Skilled in supervision and leadership.
  • Ability to access computer applications to identify case reports; confirm case numbers; and identify individuals' criminal histories and warrants information, evidence inventory information such as item location and release status, and Court information such as case disposition status.
  • Ability to Communicate ideas and proposals verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to Establish and implement effective administrative programs and procedures.
  • Ability to Establish priorities for the completion of work in accordance with sound time management methodology.
  • Ability to Establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse group of people.
  • Ability to Lead and manage teams.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with management, subordinates, other City employees, vendors, contractors, and the public.

The Metropolitan Council considers felony, gross misdemeanor and misdemeanor convictions on a case-by-case basis, based on whether they are related to the job and whether the candidate has demonstrated adequate rehabilitation.
