CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CLASS:

Under the direction of the Information Technology Manager, performs technical and analytical work at moderate difficulty in the administration of the Sheriff's Office information management systems. Assisting in the maintenance and organization of agency databases, including security and custom reports. Work involves the use of relational databases, teaching skills, and development and maintenance of custom queries for extraction of data for use in managerial/statistical reports.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Assist in the maintenance, user account creation, security, training, and implementation of agency third-party software systems to include but not limited to RMS, JMS, CAD, MUNIS, and finance software systems.
  • Creates and maintains programs and queries for the extraction of information used to create managerial and statistical reports as needed.
  • Provides technical training to other members of the Sheriff's Office.
  • Provides advanced technical assistance to other members of the Sheriff's Office as needed through the agency IT Help Desk.
  • Performs basic to intermediate hardware troubleshooting and maintenance.
  • Performs basic to intermediate TCP/IP Network troubleshooting and maintenance.
  • Performs process analysis to ensure effective use of agency systems.
  • Coordinate third-party software systems updates with vendor support.
  • Analyze system workflows and make recommendations based on business needs.
  • Participate in the IT On-Call rotation.

QUALIFICATIONS

A. Training and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in associated IT discipline preferred, will substitute two years of experience in lieu of a degree.

B. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Expertise in creating custom SQL queries
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills with an emphasis on Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to quickly comprehend new applications and equipment and to make recommendation for their use, as necessary.
  • Ability to analyze business processes and make recommendation to optimize their efficiency within the agency.
  • Knowledge of creating and maintaining SQL Server Reporting Service reports.
  • Basic understanding of ARC GIS Pro, shape files, geo databases and the layer export process.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with Sheriff's Office employees, county officials and members of the community on both a technical and non-technical basis, as necessary.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS
  • Acceptable eyesight (with or without correction).
  • Acceptable hearing (with or without hearing aid).
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle.
  • Ability to stand or sit for long periods of time.
  • Ability to bend and crawl in the repair, maintenance, and installation of computer equipment.
