Royalty Accountant Classification/Reports to
Exempt/Royalty Accounting Manager
Summary/Objective
Blackhawk Mining LLC is seeking a Royalty Accountant to join the financial reporting and accounting team at its corporate headquarters in Lexington, KY. This position will be responsible for assisting with the monthly and quarterly royalty accounting close process for various mining subsidiaries of the Company. The ideal candidate will have an understanding of GAAP, land contracts, is able to identify and communicate relevant issues for timely and accurate resolution as well as work in a dynamic team environment.
Essential Functions

- Executing recurring and new journal entry requirements
- Analyzing income statements and balance sheets vs historical results and vs forecasted levels and understanding variances vs actual results
- Prepare monthly calculations of royalties and reports as required per the related agreements
- Performing balance sheet reconciliations for the subsidiaries and executing other tasks as needed
- Prepare and/or assist with ad hoc reporting for senior management
- Managing improvements in tools and processes used in the above processes with an emphasis on ensuring consistency between all subsidiaries
- Adhering to acceptable internal controls and ensuring they are executed and documented satisfactorily.
- Excellent attention to detail, analytical skills and problem solving skills
- Self-driven, motivated and eager to learn with a passion for process improvement
- Ability to work efficiently and accurately in a high-volume, fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
- Basic understanding of land contracts and royalty agreements
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a constantly changing environment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains is a plus
- BS or BA in accounting or finance
- 2+ years of relevant corporate accounting experience and/or public accounting
- CPA/CMA certification is preferable
Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, etc.
Physical Demands

This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bending or standing on a stool as necessary.
Travel
Minimal travel is expected for this position.
