The CTO Performance Engineering Team at Vanguard is excited to announce our search for a Cloud Specialist to join our team, which is responsible for a best-in-class software suite that facilitates a scientific approach to analyzing application performance. Our Performance Testing as a Service (PTaaS) platform is essential for building confidence in the release-readiness of all Vanguard applications and services. This highly dynamic role in technical software product development helps our clients automate thousands of performance tests each month, providing a critical quality control layer, and forming a resilient technological foundation for the entire Vanguard organization in ways that would previously never have been attainable. The mission statement of the Performance Engineering Team is to Democratize Performance Engineering for the Greater Vanguard. Our Cloud Specialists work cross-functionally with a number of teams at all levels throughout Vanguard, evolving our PTaaS platform, which helps to optimize Vanguard teams and cloud architectures from both a cost, resilience, and technological performance perspective. Impact Grow the technical expertise of the team Make outages a thing of the past throughout Vanguard Help drive strategic development and work on some of Vanguard's most valuable digital products Ensure the end-to-end quality and success of our Performance Testing as a Service product following industry best-practices for software development Help Vanguard prepare for success in the face of the unpredictable demands of the modern web. Work with Development Teams, Site Reliability Engineers, Delivery Managers, Platform Teams, Architects and more to find the most efficient ways to scale Who You Are You are genuinely passionate about technology You bring a customer-focused, value-driven attitude to software development You seek to develop world-class software tools to better assess the resilience of apps and services handling millions of user requests You thrive in team-based environments working with other engineers to develop great products You enjoy tackling cutting-edge software problems You excel at presenting complex technological issues in ways that anyone can understand You love working with software developers closely to improve code performance and quality You would enjoy helping foster a strong engineering culture Recommended Technical Proficiencies Python TypeScript, NodeJS, React, or VanillaJS Cloud Compute, Networking and VPC Component Services Non-relational Database Technologies CI/CD, OOP and TDD Core Responsibilities Identifies, recommends, and implements high-quality software features. Diagnoses and troubleshoots the most complex issues for cloud computing systems on multiple platforms. Maintains comprehensive technical knowledge of software and infrastructure platforms. Adheres to department and Vanguard standards for acceptable application performance. Reviews those configuration parameters to optimize system performance and maximize uptime. Troubleshoots and resolves the most complex issues elevated from our users. Provides guidance and consultation as required. Updates, writes, and maintains documentation for the department. Performs systems analysis, including system requirements analysis and definition, and logical design. Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned. What it takes: Minimum of five years related work experience with progressive responsibility required. Undergraduate degree or an equivalent combination of training and experience required.
