Overview of Role

The Automation/Controls Engineer is responsible for providing Tier 2 support in managing and maintaining all in-plant automation devices, including Allen Bradley PLC's, HMI's, and VFD's. This role plays a critical part in ensuring the efficient operation of automated manufacturing equipment and will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to enhance processes and resolve complex technical issues.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develop and maintain equipment databases for automation devices.
  • Provide Tier 2 technical expertise to troubleshoot and resolve operational issues across different teams.
  • Evaluate and recommend component replacements or upgrades for obsolete items.
  • Standardize components to streamline inventory management.
  • Create technical documentation and conduct training sessions for maintenance staff on component replacements and troubleshooting.
  • Monitor and maintain building SCADA systems to ensure proper functionality.
  • Continuously enhance the reliability and efficiency of existing systems.
Education and/or Experience:
  • Associate Degree Required, Bachelor's degree preferred in Engineering or related field.
  • 3-5 years of hands-on experience in programming industrial controls.
  • Proficient in troubleshooting and performing complex system tests.
  • Strong knowledge of automated manufacturing equipment and programming.
  • Skilled in using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and AutoCAD.
  • Familiarity with databases, process monitoring systems, and MES (Manufacturing Execution System) is preferred.
  • Experience in food processing & manufacturing is advantageous.
Physical Requirements and Environment:
  • Good vision and manual dexterity.
  • Capable of sitting/standing for extended periods and working on a computer.
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) must be worn on the production floor.
