What do we do? Below are a few of the Senior Financial Auditor position's primary responsibilities: Reviews the work of the Health Facility Auditors for Private Non-Medical Institutions(PNMI) and Skilled Nursing Facilities(SNF) within the State of Vermont, using the Division of Rate Setting(Division) review procedures. Instruct, train, and mentor newly hired Auditors in the processes and regulations used by the Division. Consult with appropriate personnel on accounting and auditing issues, and consult with other staff on the interpretation of state and federal healthcare regulations. Performs special analysis and participates in special assignments at the request of the Rate Setting Manager or the Director of Rate Setting. Perform desk reviews and field audits of SNFs and PNMIs, including preparation of summary of findings and proposed adjustments, if required by the Rate Setting Manager or the Director of Rate Setting.

How do we do it? We review nursing home cost reports to determine if the reported costs are reasonable, allowable, and properly reported, and we make reclassifications for errors and adjustments for any disallowed costs.

Why do we do it? We take pride in safeguarding Medicaid and Medicare funds from fraud, waste, and abuse for state and federal taxpayers, which can allow funds to be appropriately spent in quality healthcare services needed elsewhere.

Master's degree in Business Administration or accounting AND two (2) or more years of experience in a finance related field. OR Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting AND three (3) or more years of finance, accounting or auditing experience. OR Bachelor's degree in any discipline supplemented by 15 credit hours in accounting AND four (4) or more years of finance, accounting or auditing experience. OR Certified Public Accountant (CPA) (license does not need to be in force). Preferred Qualifications

Experience in a health care or regulatory environment.

Ability to read, understand, and apply laws, rules, and regulations of significant complexity. Ability to test and check the complex auditing work of others to ensure that there are no errors in calculations or written work. Can communicate constructive feedback professionally and adjust to different learning styles. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including the ability to create, analyze, and review complex spreadsheets, formulas, and charts from large amounts of data. Ability to problem solve by performing independent research on how to resolve the issue. High level of organizational skills with the ability to prioritize activities and act under the guidance of management. Effective professional writing skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships through good interpersonal skills. Special Requirements
