Summary

The Data Science for Dynamic Intervention Decision Making Center D3C within the Institute for Social Research at the University of Michigan invites applications for a software manager to work as part of a diverse cross-campus research team dedicated to democratizing mobile health research through open-source technology. The software manager will lead the development of JustIn - an open-source toolkit to accelerate the development of mobile tools that can help people improve their health and well-being. We are seeking an experienced Software Manager to lead the success of this groundbreaking initiative. Responsibilities
  • Project Leadership: Lead and manage a high performing team of software developers, designers, researchers, students and support staff to ensure the delivery of the JustIn open source project. Hire new team members, provide performance feedback and evaluate performance, determine work assignments and developmental goals. Foster a collaborative work environment
  • Strategic Planning: Collaborate with stakeholders and project leadership to define project goals, scope, and timelines. Develop and implement strategic plans, ensure timelines and project tracking are in place to achieve project objectives deadlines.
  • Open Source Community Engagement: engage with the open source community, foster collaboration, and bring contributions to the project. Maintain a positive and inclusive community culture.
  • Quality Assurance: Oversee the implementation of testing and quality assurance processes to ensure the reliability and security of the software.
  • Documentation: Ensure comprehensive and up-to-date documentation for the project, including technical specifications, user guides, and developer documentation.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least five (5) years of experience in a research or corporate IT or Development environment.
  • Experience with server-side architecture and related back-end technologies (AWS experience preferred).
  • Experience with smart-device development and related front-end technologies.
  • Team management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a diverse team.
  • In-depth knowledge of mobile health technologies and the broader healthcare domain.
  • Experience with agile development methodologies and tools.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Engage with and contribute to open source communities.
Desired Qualifications*
  • Master degree in related field
  • Experience with cross-platform development
  • Familiarity with relevant programming languages and frameworks used in mobile health development.
  • Experience with mobile application development.
  • Previous contributions to open source projects.
