Java Data Engineer

The Opportunity:

As a data engineer at Booz Allen, you'll perform data architecture planning and implementation, including database development, extract-transform-load (ETL) processes, and data management operations. You will implement scalable and sustainable data engineering solutions using tools, including Java, Kafka, and Docker, and write custom code for data ingestion, transformation, and aggregation. You'll work with other members of the project team to support delivery of additional project components, build and operationalize complex and innovative data solutions, correct problems, apply transformations, and recommend data cleansing and quality validation solutions. Here, you'll work with a multi-disciplinary team of analysts, data engineers, developers, and data consumers in a fast-paced, Agile environment.

This role is more than just coding. We need a software engineer to join a development team, who will use their passion to learn new tools and techniques and identify needed system improvements. You'll analyze the needs and the environment to help the solution team consider the architecture and operating environment, including future functionality and enhancements, then engineer the right solution to realize high impact and client success.

You Have:

  • 5+ years of experience with Java, including developing, compiling, building, and testing Java apps

  • 5 + years of experience with the entire ETL pipeline, including data acquisition, data prep, and database architecture

  • Experience using Kafka Streams and Kafka fundamentals

  • Experience building a Kafka Streams app to transform data between Kafka topics

  • Experience with a standard git workflow, including pull, branch, commit, push, review, and merge

  • Experience with developing scalable ETL and ELT workflows for analyzing structured and unstructured data

  • Experience creating solutions within a collaborative, cross-functional team environment

  • Ability to develop scripts and programs for converting various types of data into usable formats and support project team to scale, monitor and operate data platforms

  • Secret clearance

  • Bachelor's degree

Nice If You Have:

  • Experience working in a SCIF

  • Experience with a public cloud, including AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud

  • Experience with data engineering projects supporting data science and AI and ML implementations

  • Experience with containerization tools, including Docker and Kubernetes

  • Experience with distributed data and computing tools, including Spark, Databricks, Hadoop, Hive, or AWS EMR

  • Experience working on real-time data and streaming applications

  • Experience with NoSQL implementation using MongoDB or Cassandra

  • Experience with data warehousing, including AWS Redshift, MySQL, or Snowflake

  • Experience with UNIX and Linux, including basic commands and Shell scripting

  • Experience with Agile engineering practice

Salary at Booz Allen is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, the individual's particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $75,600.00 to $172,000.00 (annualized USD). The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of Booz Allen's total compensation package for employees. This posting will close within 90 days from the Posting Date.
